When looking for a hotel in Balatonszéplak, thinking about the focus of your stay can help: Would you like to spend your time at the beach, are you interested in how the resort came about, or would you like to plan a longer cycling tour? Ezüstpart, the place names handed down over time and a designated tour offer concrete points of reference for assessing the destination according to these interests.

Ezüstpart: beach and facilities

The designated free Ezüstpart beach covers approximately 1,200 m². Csongor utca marks its eastern boundary, and Egri János utca its western boundary. Facilities there include several changing rooms, outdoor showers and toilets. Sports and leisure facilities include several volleyball, Teqball and foot tennis courts. In addition to the beach, the offering therefore includes specific options for sports and leisure. The area and street boundaries help identify Ezüstpart as a particular stretch of beach.

Local history and former names

Balatonszéplak was established and discovered as a holiday resort in the early 1930s. Szűcs Zsigmond, who came from Budapest, had designed the holiday complex as early as 1929–1930. These details describe different stages: the design of the complex and the subsequent establishment or discovery of the resort.

The former name Balatonlidó also refers to the landscape. This part of Balatonszéplak was formerly known by that name because of its sandy shore; however, Balatonlidó was never an official name. The name Ezüstpart arose in a different context: the shore east of Siófok, also called Aranypart, was intended for hotel construction. The section designated for company holiday homes remained in Széplak and was given the new name Ezüstpart. The two names therefore have different histories behind them: Balatonlidó referred to the sandy shore, while Ezüstpart referred to the plans for that stretch of shoreline at the time.

Another named place is Végh-Ignác Square in Balatonszéplak-felső. A statue of Mihály Károlyi stands there. It adds a specific square and a public artwork to the local history, which you can consider as a point of interest in its own right, separate from the beach and cycling tour.

The route includes both Balatonszéplak railway stations and the intermediate point of Töreki. The tour offers a different scale for planning your day than a stay at the beach: it passes several named stops and covers a total of 20 km. Check the route conditions locally.
