Szigetbecse offers a variety of themes to help you plan your stay: Swabian houses and a historic church, well-preserved customs, a small pond in the village center, and a museum and nature trail. Architectural history and traditions add cultural highlights; the pond, Becsei Holtág, and nature trail reveal different aspects of the landscape. This allows you to explore the village’s features according to your interests.

Village History and Living Traditions

Along PetƑfi Sándor utca, you’ll find Swabian houses with front verandas and iron fences dating from the 19th and 20th centuries. The house numbers mentioned are 20, 24, 30, and 35. The church in Szigetbecse is dedicated to Saint Michael. It was built between 1800 and 1803 with the support of Prince Albert, husband of Archduchess Maria Christina. While the houses span two centuries, the church is notable for a specific construction period at the beginning of the 19th century.

Local customs also have different historical roots. The traditional Easter Sunday egg race is still celebrated in Szigetbecse. Swabian families who immigrated from Styria at the beginning of the 18th century brought the custom with them. On the feast day of Saint John of Nepomuk, May 16, candles and lanterns are set afloat on the water. The municipality has revived this centuries-old custom since 2002; the specific event arrangements may vary. Easter Sunday and the fixed date in May thus provide two points of reference in the calendar.

Pond, River Landscape, and Nature Trail

The small pond beside Balassi tér is in the center of Szigetbecse. A grassy area and a walking path with benches surround the water. Tó-kilåtó offers a view of the pond and was opened in 2022. Becsei Holtåg is a different landscape feature: it formed in an old riverbed on the right bank of the Råckeve-Soroksåri Duna-åg. The pond is described as a landscaped spot in the center, while the oxbow refers to a river landscape and how it formed.

The TƑzike Nature Trail focuses on plant life. It is named after the summer snowflake, which grows in less accessible parts of the small forest and blooms in May. Benches, tables, and a small observation point stand at the entrance to the trail. This highlights both the seasonal significance of the plant it is named after and the facilities at the entrance. Two May references can help with planning the year: the summer snowflake’s bloom and the Nepomuk custom associated with May 16.

Another point to note when planning your visit is the development of the recreation park: in 2020, the Szigetbecse Községért Közalapítvåny added outdoor play equipment. Together with the historic houses, customs, and varied landscape features, this offers a range of themes to help you plan your stay according to your interests.
