Délegyháza: Gravel-Pit Lakes, Culture and Farmsteads
Accommodation in Délegyháza
Délegyháza puts its gravel-pit lakes front and center: the municipality has twelve lakes with a water surface of about 300 hectares. They are suitable for swimming, fishing and various water sports. The Kölcsey Cultural House, an area shaped by farmsteads, and a nudist beach with a campsite also give the area its own character.
Lakes and fishing regulations
Two figures are important for understanding the area: the twelve gravel-pit lakes have a combined water surface of about 300 hectares, while Lakes I, II and III cover 80 hectares. Their beds are uneven, alternating between gravelly and muddy areas; depths range from 1 to 5 meters. The Délegyházi Horgász Sportegyesület manages the fishery on Lakes I, II and III. If you plan to fish there, check in advance which current permits are required. The 80 hectares of the three lakes amount to roughly one quarter of the approximately 300 hectares of water surface across all twelve lakes.
Rules at specific waterfront locations
In the lakeside area of Szent-István Park on Délegyháza Lake I, motor vehicles are prohibited from entering and parking. The only exception is the brief period needed by arriving anglers to launch and retrieve boats. The same entry and parking ban, with the same narrowly limited exception, applies at Sirály Beach on Délegyháza Lake II. Fishing is also prohibited there from May 1 to September 30. This seasonal fishing ban applies to Sirály Beach; the vehicle rules concern entry and parking at the locations mentioned. Before your trip, check the current version of the local fishing regulations, especially if you plan to fish at these waterfront locations or arrive by car.
Culture and local history
The Piróth Mansion now houses the Kölcsey Cultural House. It is the only surviving building among Délegyháza’s former castles and manor houses. The Kölcsey Cultural House is also the oldest and most richly decorated building in the village. The mansion and the cultural house are therefore the same building. If you want to learn about Délegyháza’s history as well as its lakes, this building offers a specific point of reference.
Farmstead area and other highlights
The municipality includes a large area characterized by farmsteads, where visitors can hike and ride horses. These activities offer a different focus from the water-based attractions and provide a landscape-oriented perspective on the area.
Délegyháza is also home to a nudist beach with a campsite, established as the first of its kind in Hungary and still in operation. Check the current visitor regulations before your trip.
