Zagyvarékas: Routes, Nature and Local History
Accommodation in Zagyvarékas
Zagyvarékas combines a developed walking route with nature experiences and local history. You can approach your trip from different angles: a route on foot connecting several places, routes through varied landscapes by bike and on the water, and individual cultural and historical attractions. This lets you tailor your stay to the topics that interest you most.
On Foot and Through Varied Landscapes
From Zagyvarékas, you can explore the developed walking route via Újszász to Szászberek. It provides access to the region’s nature and wildlife. The route therefore links a specific sequence of places with a nature-focused theme: Zagyvarékas is the starting point, Újszász lies along the way, and Szászberek is the destination.
The Tájház in the center of the village serves as the starting point in Zagyvarékas; a playground for adults has also been set up at the trailhead. In Kisszög, the route passes a rest area, a campsite and a nature trail. This gives you both a clearly marked starting point in the village center and several stops along the way.
By contrast, the cycling and water tours focus on the landscape: the routes pass through riverside areas, floodplains, forests and agricultural land. The walking route connecting the villages and the tours described in terms of their landscapes thus offer different points of reference for planning an excursion. A visitor center with an interactive board is located next to the animal-petting area.
Local History and Attractions
The statue of St. John of Nepomuk was erected beside the Zagyva Bridge on October 8, 1794. Today, it stands next to the church. The exact date of its erection makes the statue a specific historical landmark, while its current location provides another point of orientation. There is also a stone cross in front of a church in Zagyvarékas.
The Zagyvarékasi Faluház-Tájház and its collection are located at 34 Rákóczi út. Visits are possible during opening hours by prior arrangement. As a precaution, confirm the current visiting arrangements before your visit. This way, you can take both the agreed visiting format and the opening hours into account.
In the Wider Destination
Within the wider destination of Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok, Lake Tisza, in the northern part of Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County, is a tourist hub. Lake Tisza and its surroundings are also among the region’s outstanding areas for cycling tourism. The international EuroVelo 2 cycling route follows the Tisza through the county. These regional features add a distinct cycling context to the picture of Zagyvarékas. For orientation, two scales are therefore presented side by side: the specific walking route starting in Zagyvarékas and the cycling themes of the wider destination. Within the wider destination of Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok, the Tiszakürt Arboretum is home to more than 1,000 plant species and varieties; its Öregkert area has a signposted network of walking paths stretching 3.5 kilometers.
