Accommodation in Petőháza
Petőháza brings together historic buildings, local collection themes, and green spaces and waterside spots. This offers a range of ways to plan a stay: local history, sugar and local heritage, the arboretum, and the beach and thermal bath. Two specific timing considerations can help you decide: the collection has set seasonal Wednesday hours, and the bathing season is also seasonal.
Culture and local history
The present-day Church of the Holy Trinity was built in 1902–1903. János Schiller designed it in the Neo-Romanesque style; the tower is designed in the Neo-Gothic style. The church thus brings together two distinct styles. Its tower houses a bell weighing 4.2 centners, which won a Grand Prize at the 1900 Paris World’s Fair. The construction period, design and bell each offer a different point of interest if you are interested in Petőháza’s architectural and cultural history.
The Park of Remembrance was established in the summer of 2016 on the grounds of the old cemetery. Its wrought-iron entrance gate dates from 1847. The two dates create a clear contrast in time: the gate is much older than the park. A newer memorial site and a historic architectural feature thus stand side by side here.
The Petőháza Sugar Industry and Local History Collection brings local history together with the subject of sugar. It is open on Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., from March 1 to October 31. Guided tours and collection activities cover the history of sugar and its physiological role. Flexible appointments are available for groups by prior arrangement. If you are planning a guided tour or collection activity, arrange the time in advance; for a visit during regular opening hours, the specified weekday applies.
Arboretum and Lake Belső
Protected and native plant species have been planted in the Petőháza Arboretum. The pond there also has its own history of use: the Petőháza Angling Association maintains it and stocks it with fish several times a year. The plant species and the care of the pond are two distinct aspects of the site.
The surroundings of Lake Belső are well maintained and landscaped like a park. There is a small wooden hut and a picnic area. A seasonal feature depends on the weather: only in colder winters does the lake develop a surface of ice suitable for sports, which skaters use. Check the ice conditions on site before planning this activity. This distinguishes the lake’s permanent facilities from an activity that is only possible when winter conditions are suitable.
Thermal water and planning your visit
The water at the Petőháza Beach and Thermal Bath was officially recognized as medicinal water in 2004. It is also important to note that bathing is seasonal. Petőháza Beach can be reached by coach or train. Check current operating and timetable information before travelling, as no specific connections or departure times are provided here. Unlike the collection, which is open on designated Wednesdays within a seasonal period, a visit to the beach depends on the seasonal bathing schedule. You can take these two different timing conditions into account when choosing your stay.
