Discover Dunakiliti-Tejfalusziget
Accommodation in Dunakiliti-Tejfalusziget
Dunakiliti-Tejfalusziget combines a water-rich landscape with local history and a variety of cultural sites. In Dunakiliti, the Old Danube, the Mosoni-Danube and winding side channels shape the landscape. There are also architectural landmarks, a visitor center at the weir, and activities that focus on nature and local history. You can plan your trip around the themes that interest you most.
Danube branches, walks and nature
The Kisrévi-Duna-ág runs alongside the built-up area of Dunakiliti. It is used for waterside recreation, as well as angling and fishing. The Danube side channels in the municipality are suitable for canoe trips and fishing. This offers different ways to enjoy the water: relaxing quietly on the riverbank, fishing, or taking a canoe trip.
Walks and hikes are also among the things to do in the peaceful, natural surroundings. The 3.7-kilometer Fenékküszöb Tour is described as a family activity and a hike. The Kiserdei-Sétány offers a different way to connect with nature, introducing visitors to the flora and fauna of Szigetköz. Pintér Bridge is a pedestrian bridge set in a scenic natural landscape. Since March 2018, Dunakiliti has been a Szigetköz Nature Park municipality.
Churches, village history and architecture
The Neo-Gothic Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Dunakiliti features interior frescoes and colorful, pink stained-glass windows with pointed arches. The Millennium Oak, planted in 1896, stands in front of the church. In summer, it provides shade for visitors resting there.
Another architectural landmark is Batthyány Castle, built between 1858 and 1862 in the early Historicist style. The Falumúzeum is dedicated to rural village life in the past and displays tools with written explanations. In Tejfalusziget, construction of the Szent-Mihály Chapel began in 1935 as a family chapel. Each of these sites has its own focus—from church architecture and stained glass to the history of everyday rural life.
Weir and visitor center
The Dunakiliti weir is located in the municipality, about 2 to 3 kilometers outside the village. It is recommended as a place worth seeing. The bridge over the unfinished weir offers an impressive view. The visitor center is located in the weir’s operations building. It was established as part of the Insula Magna project and handed over in autumn 2023. If you are planning a visit, check current visitor access in advance.
Thematic maps and information boards provide context. Scale models at 1:100 show the Dunakiliti weir with its ship lock, as well as the power station and ship lock at Bős. The facilities also include an interactive touchscreen visualization table and two interactive touchscreen kiosk tablets. The exhibition thus combines the waterworks with explanatory and illustrative displays.
Plan around local events
The Szigetköz Lelke Pálinkaház hosts an annual pálinka festival with a competition for people who commission distillation. As the dates vary from year to year, check them before planning your trip. This helps you distinguish a possible festival visit from the village’s year-round attractions: its waterside landscape, nature trails, architecture and village history.
