If you’re looking for a hotel in Lipót, you can start by deciding what you want to focus on during your stay. The baths, the riverside landscape north of the village and St. Clement’s Church appeal to different interests: swimming and leisure activities, nature by the water, and history and art. Consider whether the baths, nature or local history will shape your stay. This will help you choose how to explore Lipót based on your travel interests.

Thermal Baths and Leisure Activities

The main tourist attraction is the fully renovated and expanded Lipóti Thermal and Adventure Bath, with six pools. The bathing facilities include a 1,200 m² beach pool, a wave pool, a water adventure park and large slides. The 10-hectare landscaped grounds add beach volleyball, table tennis, badminton, massages, aqua Zumba and a large playground to the swimming facilities. The bath’s thermal water was classified as medicinal water in 2004. The complex brings together several different leisure activities in one place.

Water Lily–Covered Oxbow Lake and Nature by the Water

North of Lipót, a 70-hectare oxbow lake covered with water lilies borders the village. A nature trail runs along the shore, with rain shelters, rest areas and birdwatching hides. Here, the focus is on the riverside landscape and observing nature, while the baths bring together pools and leisure activities. These two water-related themes offer different starting points for planning your trip, depending on whether you’re more interested in swimming or a waterside landscape.

Another landscape feature is the protected chestnut tree avenue along the road between Lipót and Darnózseli. Lipót’s fishing waters include Lake Kövecses and the Kengyártói Lakes. Together with the oxbow lake, these places add a range of water and landscape features to the picture of Lipót.

Church and Local History

St. Clement’s Church in Lipót was completed in 1777 in the Baroque style. One of its most important artworks is a fresco attributed to Maulbertsch. The church also houses a Passion painting that probably came from the Capuchin monastery in Mosonmagyaróvár. Its date and style make the church a historical landmark, while the fresco and Passion painting add their own art-historical details. The painting’s presumed origin is less certain than the established date of the church.

The story of Lipóti Pékség also began in Lipót: it started in 1992 with a team of four. At the Lipót bakery, traditional baking craftsmanship meets modern technology. This adds a connection to local food production to the history of the village, alongside the themes of baths, landscape and religious art.

Placing Lipót in the Wider Destination

The wider destination of Győr-Moson-Sopron has other distinct cultural and landscape themes. The Benedictine Abbey of Pannonhalma was founded in 996. The World Heritage property includes the monastic complex, the basilica, educational buildings, the Chapel of Our Lady, the Millennium Chapel, and botanical and herb gardens. The Fertő/Neusiedler See Cultural Landscape is also part of this regional setting: it includes Eurasia’s westernmost steppe lake, as well as wetlands, saline soils, reed beds and shore areas. These features belong to the wider destination of Győr-Moson-Sopron and are clearly distinct from the local themes of Lipót.
