Harsány: Lakes, Trails and History
Accommodation in Harsány
When choosing a destination, Harsány offers several specific points of interest: a lake system on the southern slopes of the Bükk Mountains, walking and cycling routes, and a historic cellar built during a precisely dated period. For planning purposes, it is worth distinguishing between the different bodies of water by name and activity.
Waterside scenery and activities
Harsányi Horgásztó is located about 10 km from Miskolc, on the southern slopes of the Bükk Mountains. The lake system consists of three lakes formed by damming the Csincse stream and arranged in a chain. Together, they cover 40 ha of usable water surface. This total area refers to all three lakes, not just the largest pond.
The largest of the Harsány fishing ponds has a water surface of 20 ha and an average depth of 2.5 m. Its basin runs evenly parallel to the cross-dam; the bottom is obstructed in places. Fishing at Harsányi-tavak began in 2006. Nádasvölgyi-tó offers boating at Harsányi Szabadidő- és Kalandpark. Check current operating details before making plans.
Walking and cycling routes
A hiking trail runs around Harsányi Horgásztó. For a specific outing, it is advisable to check the current trail conditions. This lets you treat the loop around the lake as a separate excursion, without conflating it with the other routes in the village.
A designated 0.5 km cycle path section has been built on Dózsa György út in Harsány. This length refers to the specified section in the village. The two route descriptions offer different scales for planning: the hiking trail runs around Horgásztó, while the cycling information gives the length of a particular section of road. Another specific location in the village is Harsányi Sport Centrum, at 34 Munkácsy Mihály utca.
Historic traces and visit planning
The large cellar on the estate in Harsány was expanded between 1755 and 1759, at the same time as the Bishop's Cellar in Eger. This period gives this part of the village's history a clear historical reference point: the work in Harsány and Eger took place simultaneously.
The Sópince has a separate visitor restriction: for technical reasons, it is closed to visitors for an indefinite period. If you are planning a visit, check beforehand whether access arrangements have changed.
