There are several ways to explore Mánfa during your stay, including trails in the Mecsek, the Árpád-era church, and the town’s history. The specific routes and visitor conditions can help you decide which aspects to focus on.

Hiking and Cycling Around Mánfa

Vágotpuszta is administratively part of Mánfa, but is a separate, tiny settlement in the Mecsek, consisting of just a few houses. Hiking trails converge there, and Vágotpuszta is also on routes for youth hikes and endurance tours. So those interested in the trails in the Mecsek will find both a point along the route and a connection to the settlement’s history here.

A popular cycling route also passes through Vágotpuszta. It starts in Pécs, runs through Magyarszék and Magyarhertelend, and returns to Pécs. The route can be traced using the named places, while Vágotpuszta provides the connection to Mánfa.

A longer hiking option is the 34.16 km route from Dömörkapu to the Szászvár bus station. It passes the Árpád-era church and the cemetery in Mánfa. The distance and the listed stops offer practical guidance for planning; check current trail markings and conditions before setting out.

The Szent Imre Spring is nearby. It can be reached via the Mecseki Zöldtúra from both Mánfa and Magyarszék. You should also check current conditions before setting out on this route.

Church and Local History

A phone call in advance is required to visit the interior of the Árpád-era church in Mánfa. Before your trip, check the municipality’s visitor page for current contact details. The church is also a point on the 34.16 km route from Dömörkapu to Szászvár; however, visiting the church and planning the route are two separate aspects of the trip.

The memorial park at 79 Fábián Béla Street commemorates Fábián Béla. He was born in Pécs and grew up in the house at this address. In February 1945, he was killed when the Dráva Bridge in Barcs was blown up.

Vágotpuszta also has its own historical significance: after November 4, 1956, the settlement served as a gathering place for the Mecsek resistance fighters who fought against the occupiers. The trails through the Mecsek and the remembrance of the events of 1956 thus offer two different perspectives on the same place. A playground made from natural materials opened at 22 Óvoda Street in 2008.

Culture in the Wider Destination of Baranya

As an additional cultural highlight in the wider destination of Baranya, Pécs offers the Early Christian Necropolis of Sopianae. It includes decorated tombs from the 4th century, built as underground burial chambers with above-ground memorial chapels and adorned with Christian wall paintings. Another highlight is the Zsolnay Cultural Quarter, with the “Golden Age of Zsolnay” and “Pink Exhibition,” as well as an exhibition on the family and factory history.
