The sights and natural features offer different points of interest. You can choose your destination based on what interests you there.

Churches and Local History

A ceramic plaque in Szabadság tér depicts the history of Lajosmizse. Another focal point of local history is the Roman Catholic Szent-Lajos Church. Architect Károly Bachmann designed and built it in 1896 in the eclectic style. Craft details are also part of its description: the main altar and the elaborately carved statues are examples of Tyrolean woodcarving. Together, the plaque and church offer different ways to explore the town’s history—one through a depiction in the square, the other through architecture and woodcarving.

Another historic church is Pusztatemplom, an Early Gothic building from the late 14th century. It stood in the Puszta, outside an inhabited area. This distinguishes it from Szent-Lajos Church, whose year of construction and architect are known: in the case of Pusztatemplom, the focus is on its Early Gothic architecture, its date to the late 14th century, and its location outside the settlement area of the time.

Lakes, Sand Ridges and Protected Green Spaces

Some original landforms of the sand ridge landscape have been preserved on the outskirts of Lajosmizse. These include numerous small sand dunes and sand ridges. The landscape thus shapes a different part of the townscape from the buildings and history in the town center. If you would like to consider both nature and local history when planning your trip, these are two distinct themes to guide your interests.

Iskola-tó and Füzes-tó (Horgásztó), including their surroundings, are under local protection. Much of Iskola-tó is covered in reeds. Duck species and reed warblers breed there in particular; occasionally, 8 to 10 swans can be seen on the water. Füzes-tó is used for recreation and sport fishing. These details describe two lakes with the same protection status but different features: reeds and birdlife define Iskola-tó, while recreational use, including sport fishing, is noted for Füzes-tó.

Protected green space also includes Központi park. In addition, nearly 140 plane trees and horse chestnuts along the main road are under local protection. The park, tree-lined road and lakes offer different starting points if you are interested in Lajosmizse’s protected natural areas and green spaces.

Bács-Kiskun in a Broader Context

The wider travel destination of Bács-Kiskun offers other cultural and historical themes. In Tiszaalpár, the Tiszaalpár, Földvár educational trail presents the history of a Bronze Age fortified settlement and the way of life of people in the Bronze Age. Tiszaalpári Földvár is a specially protected archaeological site in Bács-Kiskun; it was designated under Regulation 3/2003. (I. 25.) NKÖM. Also in Tiszaalpár, a reconstruction of an Árpád-era village, built to mark the millennium, depicts the settlement structure discovered during local excavations.

Other themes in Bács-Kiskun range from crafts to nature interpretation. At the Kiskunhalasi Csipkeház and Csipkemúzeum, visitors can learn about the history of Halas lace, which began in 1902, admire lacework dating back centuries, and see the lace-embroidery process. The Boróka educational trail in Bugac is 1,100 meters long and combines information boards with interactive stations, including a forest xylophone and a play telescope. These regional attractions form a separate theme from the local features of Lajosmizse.
