Judenbach combines marked trails with local history and mechanical toys. A historical educational trail leads through the village and shares its history. In and around Judenbach, there are also almost 50 kilometers of marked hiking and ski trails. This means your stay can combine nature, village history and a distinctive cultural theme. You can plan your trip according to whether you want to spend more time on trails, at historic sites or exploring mechanical toys.

Hiking and Ski Trails

In and around Judenbach, almost 50 kilometers of marked hiking and ski trails lead to quiet forest streams, secluded spots and viewpoints. The distance describes the trail network; the time estimate for the complete circuit, by contrast, applies to the “Judenbacher Horizonte” hiking trail. It was officially opened in June 2026. Hikers should allow about three to four hours for the entire circuit, depending on their pace. Various starting points make shorter sections possible. According to the description, the trail is suitable for experienced hikers, families and walkers; one section follows the Luther Trail.

Local History and Church Art

The historical educational trail shares the village’s history along a route through Judenbach. St. Nicholas Church offers a different cultural highlight. Its pulpit is carved from wood and depicts the five Evangelists. The Late Baroque organ dates from 1729 and features openwork wood carving. Together, these offer two distinct perspectives on the village: the educational trail focuses on its history, while the pulpit and organ reveal specific details of the church’s furnishings.

Mechanical Toys at Stiftung Judenbach

Mechanical toys are another theme. At Stiftung Judenbach, visitors can tour a historic workshop for mechanical toys. The foundation also houses the Weidner Collection, with around 600 mechanical toys designed and made in Judenbach and the surrounding area. Visitors can watch mechanical toys in motion in a small cinema at the foundation. The workshop, collection and cinema offer different perspectives: on the historic workshop, the range and origins of the toys, and their movement.

Föritztal as a Regional Setting

The broader destination of Föritztal is described as a transition area where southern Thuringia and Upper Franconia merge seamlessly. Burg Neuhaus and Schloss Neuhaus offer further historical points of interest: the castle was built in the 13th century as a relatively modest complex; its then-owner Hermann von Walther had the palace remodeled in the Neo-Renaissance style from 1902 to 1904. With a few exceptions, the Steinkohle GeoTrail is also suitable for cyclists. Neuhaus-Schierschnitz outdoor swimming pool is located directly on the B89 and surrounded by trees. At Rotheul Observatory, visitors can use telescopes to observe, among other things, Saturn’s rings, Jupiter’s cloud bands and moons, star clusters, nebulae and distant galaxies. Advance arrangements are required for tours and observing sessions.
