Discover Reichmannsdorf
Accommodation in Reichmannsdorf
Reichmannsdorf lies on the plateau of the Saalfelder Höhe. The Rotschnabelnest, historic sites and activities for different seasons offer several concrete starting points for your trip. When planning your stay, you can consider whether exhibitions, local history or outdoor activities should take centre stage.
Exhibitions at the Rotschnabelnest
The Rotschnabelnest spans two floors and covers a range of topics: fairy tales, professions, gold mining, local history and nature. In the craft room, display cases showcase numerous professions, including some that no longer exist today. They invite you to identify and guess the activities depicted. Children and adults can also explore coins, rocks, minerals and mining. The Rotschnabelnest also has a ducat press.
There is a large outdoor area behind the building. The Rotschnabel Park, also behind the building, features large information boards about the region’s animal and plant life. The Rotschnabelnest thus brings together a range of topics: traditional crafts, gold and mining, as well as nature and local history. The building itself also has a history: until 1976, it served as Reichmannsdorf’s school, and later as a school camp. In October 2000, it was dedicated to its use as a museum. Check the current visitor arrangements before planning a visit.
Churches and historic memorial sites
The 17th-century Aquila Church stands in the centre of the village. Another historic site is the archaeological monument of the “St. Brandis” pilgrimage chapel. St. Brandis Church was formerly used as a pilgrimage church. Its former foundations were discovered and excavated in 1924; from 2001 to 2002, they were restored and declared an archaeological monument. Here, local history is found not only in a standing church building, but also in preserved and excavated architectural remains.
Reichmannsdorf History Park also offers historic points of interest: it contains one monument to the Franco-Prussian War and another to the First World War. Together with the Aquila Church and the archaeological monument at St. Brandis, these sites can appeal to different interests in Reichmannsdorf’s history.
Outdoor activities and getting around
Leisure activities mentioned for both summer and winter include hiking, sledding and skiing. The 140-metre-long sledding hill is right next to Reichmannsdorf’s sports field. The provider lists the nearest public transport stop as 700 metres away. Check current connections before travelling by public transport.
The Mountainbike Albrecht Routes 06 passes through Reichmannsdorf, but is not marked with signposts. Take this into account when planning your route. The Thuringia Quiz XXL is located in the church car park and offers another specific local point of interest if you are exploring Reichmannsdorf.
Clubs and events
Local clubs contribute to cultural life with events including a Christmas market, a Christmas tree burning, May Day celebrations, a marksmen’s festival and a fair. If one of these events is a deciding factor in your trip, check the current dates when planning.
