Which of these aspects is most important for your stay depends on whether you are primarily interested in trails, church and architectural history, or an event date.
Trails and travel planning
The area around Hesserode can be explored on foot or by bicycle via the Nüxeier Trail. Along the way, you can reach Niedersalza, Salza and Herreden, among other places. These three destinations give your tour specific points of reference, while you can choose your mode of travel according to your own plans. Check current trail conditions before setting out.

St. Viti: History and furnishings
The history of St. Viti includes events from the 13th and 18th centuries. In 1252, Count Henry II of Honstein transferred the right of patronage over the church to Ilfeld Monastery. In 1333, the church’s foundation received confirmation from the Archbishop of Mainz. A later turning point came in 1733, when lightning struck the previous building and it burned down completely. The church was rebuilt in 1736. This brings early ecclesiastical rights and later architectural history together.
The pulpit altar dominates the chancel. It is made of wood and decorated with twisted columns and carvings. In addition to the dates, the furnishings thus offer a tangible point of reference for the architectural and art history of St. Viti.
