The Hainleite is a densely forested ridge between the Harz Mountains and the Thuringian Forest; Hainrode lies at its foot. This gives you two geographical reference points for planning your trip: the ridge itself and the village at its foot. Two stamp boxes are also located in the surrounding area; Bleicherode is a separate focus for culture and architectural history. If you are looking for a hotel for a trip to the Hainleite, you can first decide which of these themes you want to shape your stay.

Stamp boxes in the surrounding area

Since 2022, there have been two stamp boxes in the surrounding area of the destination: one in Teichtal and one at Wöbelsburg. These two location names help distinguish the sites without conflating them with the Hainleite itself. If you plan to visit one of the boxes, check in advance whether it is currently accessible.

Art and architectural history in Bleicherode

Art and architectural history in Bleicherode are associated with two different places: the Church of Beatae Mariae Virginis and the Alte Kanzlei. In the church, in a wall niche above the entrance to the sacristy, is the statue “Jacob Wrestling with the Angel,” created around 1710. It depicts a scene from Genesis 32:25–27. The title names Jacob and the angel; the Bible reference places the scene in a specific passage.

Also in the church, in the western section, is the organ built by master organ builder Robert Knauf. Extensive restoration work in 2013 allowed the instrument to sound again in its original 1898 condition. The two years refer to different milestones: 1898 denotes the original condition, while 2013 is the year of restoration. This makes it possible to distinguish the instrument’s history of construction from its restoration history.

The Alte Kanzlei is another example of Bleicherode’s architectural history. It comprises a large half-timbered barn with a residential section and a carriage house; together, they border the courtyard on its western and northern sides. The complex can be understood through its construction style and the spatial arrangement of its buildings.

The Alte Kanzlei houses the municipal library, a music school and an exhibition on the history of Bleicherode’s Jewish community. If you want to visit a particular institution or the exhibition, check access arrangements in advance. The Bleicherode examples also differ from one another: the church focuses on a statue and the organ, while the Alte Kanzlei combines half-timbered architecture with the uses mentioned above. Depending on your interests, you can focus on art and the history of musical instruments, or on the courtyard complex and its facilities.
