Discover Zeulenroda-Triebes
Accommodation in Zeulenroda-Triebes
In Zeulenroda-Triebes, you can include local history, animal encounters and activities by the water in your travel plans. The municipal museum and the neoclassical town hall offer different historical perspectives, while the animal enclosure focuses on animals and local nature. At the Zeulenrodaer Meer, options range from lidos to waterside trails.
Local history at the museum and town hall
The Zeulenroda Municipal Museum has been housed since 1927 in the former residence of Ferdinand Schopper, a hosiery manufacturer and commercial councillor. Its permanent exhibition uses selected objects to explore key events in the history of Zeulenroda-Triebes and the surrounding region. It spans the town’s founding around 1150 and the granting of town rights in 1438 through to the modern era; the exhibition also showcases trades and industries characteristic of the town.
The museum also includes living spaces, with individual pieces as well as fully furnished salons and entire rooms on display. They illustrate examples of residential architecture from around 1830 to around 1985. Alongside historical events, the exhibition thus focuses on changes in how people lived. The neoclassical Zeulenroda Town Hall offers a different architectural perspective. It was built between 1825 and 1827 to designs by Zeulenroda hosiery manufacturer Christian Heinrich Schopper (1787–1864). The neoclassical Church of the Holy Trinity is another place of cultural life in Zeulenroda.
If you are interested in the story behind one of the town’s symbols, a guided tour will tell you how the figure at the Karpfenpfeifer Fountain got its nickname. The Karpfenpfeifer is also a popular photo spot. The museum, town hall, church and fountain therefore offer different ways to explore the town: through exhibitions, architecture and a story told on a walking tour.
Discover animals and local nature
At the Zeulenroda Animal Enclosure, you can stroll along accessible paths, have a picnic and discover animals from several continents. Most live in spacious, naturalistic enclosures. In the petting enclosure, you can get close to pygmy goats. A nature trail complements the visit, with information boards and models sharing facts about local nature. The animal enclosure combines a walk, animal watching and nature-themed learning, so you don’t have to travel between different locations.
Waterside trails and activities at the Zeulenrodaer Meer
Three lidos on the Zeulenrodaer Meer invite you to go boating, swim and relax by the water. For a different perspective, try the three-kilometre accessible promenade right along the reservoir shore. It connects the Bio-Seehotel on the Zeulenrodaer Meer with the bathing area on Bleichenweg in Zeulenroda, the Zeulenrodaer Meer motorhome park and the Strandhaus da Rosario restaurant. There are also ten play and learning stations on the promenade between the Bio-Seehotel and Zeulenroda lido.
For a comparison of trail lengths, consider the Zeulenroda Reservoir Trail: it is about 45 km long and runs through the Weida Valley around both reservoirs. 89 percent of the route follows mostly natural paths close to the water. The promenade is therefore the shorter of the two options described; the reservoir trail’s length, route and surface play a greater part in planning your outing. As trail conditions may change, check the current conditions before setting out. This way, you can plan your trip around the activities you have in mind and then look for hotels in Zeulenroda-Triebes.
