Discover Rositz: local history and parkland
Accommodation in Rositz
Rositz combines local history, historic demonstration technology and listed buildings with a park and summer leisure activities. If you are looking for a hotel in Rositz, these different highlights can help you choose what to explore based on the themes you want to shape your stay.
Local History Museum and Heritage Barn
The heritage cinema at the Rositz local history museum is a small attraction featuring historic projection equipment. The exhibition upstairs covers the history of Rositz. This puts projection equipment and local history side by side as two distinct ways to explore the past. Check current visiting arrangements before you go.
The Rositz heritage barn is decorated to reflect the seasons and hosts changing special exhibitions each year. In 2007, the Rositz local history association presented the permanent exhibition “Everyday Life in Great-Grandmother’s Time” there.
Architectural history and local sights
The Bernsteinhof’s residential building was built in 1704 and is the oldest residential building in Rositz. Bernsteinhof is a listed building; one reason for this is its well-preserved timber-beamed room. This gives the estate a different focus from the local history museum: the emphasis is on a historic residential building and a specific architectural feature.
Other sights in Rositz include a Protestant church and a Catholic church. The Rositz water tower is not an observation tower and cannot be climbed or visited inside.
For several years, the Advent Festival and the Spring Festival at Bernsteinhof have been listed as special highlights in the Rositz municipal events calendar. If you want to plan your trip around either festival, check the dates in advance.
Park and outdoor swimming pool
Work on the “Trees of the Year” park began in 2010 on a large meadow on Goethestraße in Rositz. The first trees were planted in November 2010, including all the “Trees of the Year”.
In summer, the outdoor swimming pool adds to the leisure options in Rositz. Facilities include a paddling pool, 50-metre swimming lanes, a diving tower, a slide and a beach volleyball court. The swimming lanes, diving tower and beach volleyball offer different ways to enjoy your time at the pool.
In the wider Altenburger Land destination
The wider Altenburger Land destination offers further cultural and landscape highlights. Altenburg Residential Palace stands on a porphyry rock and houses the Palace and Playing Cards Museum. The Playing Cards Museum is one of the oldest and most extensive museums of its kind in Europe. The Red Spires are the surviving Romanesque towers of a former Augustinian canon monastery and are recognised as a cultural monument of national significance.
The Altenburger Land’s natural landscape and outdoor activities are shaped by gentle hills, extensive forests and idyllic bathing lakes. The Pleiße Cycle Route runs through the Altenburger Land. The Neuseen Challenge, a modern long-distance hiking trail, also crosses the region and is marked by a bright neon-yellow shoe. The Luther Trail also passes through the Altenburger Land and can be walked as a pilgrimage route.
