Delingsdorf: Village History and Rural Landscape
Accommodation in Delingsdorf
Delingsdorf offers several distinct points of reference when choosing where to stay: a local history dating back to the Middle Ages, a townscape shaped by brick and thatch, and a landscape formed by agriculture. If you are looking for a hotel in Delingsdorf, these themes can guide your choice of destination. Are you primarily interested in exploring the historic village centre, spending time in the rural surroundings, or including a local cultural offering in your plans?
Local History and Building Heritage
Delingsdorf was first mentioned under the name “Dedelmestorpe” on 21 March 1327. The history of transport in the village includes the opening of the Hamburg–Lübeck railway to traffic on 1 August 1865. Around 1940, Kannenplatz formed the village centre; the surrounding area was home to the workshops of a shoemaker, a blacksmith and a carpenter. The village’s history can thus be explored through several specific points of reference, from its early name to its craft-based village centre.
Traditional brick buildings, some thatched roofs along the main roads and a historic village centre are all part of the townscape. The bakehouse at Kannenplatz was built between 1998 and 2000 on the initiative of Hans-Werner and with the support of local helpers. Hans-Werner and the helpers also restored an old equipment shed and converted it into a café. The war memorial in Delingsdorf has remained almost unchanged to this day. The bakehouse, equipment shed and memorial offer different perspectives on the area’s architectural and local history.
Landscape and Rural Character
Traditional hedgerows (Knicks) are largely preserved in Delingsdorf. The Strusbek runs through the village centre and, together with the surrounding landscape features, forms a green corridor. The agriculturally shaped surroundings are well suited to hiking and cycling; strawberry growing and horse breeding are among the characteristic features of the rural landscape. The green corridor in the centre and the agricultural features of the surrounding area are distinct aspects of the local landscape. If you would like to include hiking or cycling in your stay, these local conditions give you a specific reason to choose Delingsdorf. At the regional level, Stormarn offers more than 20 circular cycling routes and rail-cycle paths along disused railway lines. This extends the local options with a broader offering for cyclists.
Film Programme and Buchenhof
DeliKino screens two films for children and young people in the multi-purpose hall about every eight weeks. Screening dates may change. If you would like to include a screening in your stay, check in advance when the films are showing.
A small farm shop at Buchenhof sells biologically certified meat directly to customers. Angus, Longhorn and Wagyu cattle are kept outdoors there all year round. Visitors are welcome to look around the farm. Animal husbandry, sales and visitor arrangements may change; if you plan to visit the farm shop or take a tour, check the current arrangements in advance.
