Sankt Margarethen: Elbe, Trails and Village Culture
Accommodation in Sankt Margarethen
Sankt Margarethen is located directly on the Elbe in the southern Wilstermarsch. Here, the landscapes along the river and across the marshland meet village culture and crafts. Cycle and walking routes, music in the village and the Jewels by ADFK goldsmith’s workshop give your stay a range of different highlights. This lets you plan your visit around outdoor activities or cultural interests.
Elbe, Marshland and Trails
Cycle and walking routes in Sankt Margarethen follow the Elbe and extend into the surrounding marshland. Locals and visitors use these routes. When planning, you can choose between two ways of getting around: explore the routes by bike or go on foot. Dikes, dwelling mounds and picturesque thatched-roof houses are characteristic of the Wilstermarsch.
In the wider Steinburg destination, the Elbe Cycle Route is one of five long-distance cycle routes that pass through the district.
Getting There and the Scheelenkuhlen Front Range Light
You can reach Sankt Margarethen by car via the B 431 towards GlĂĽckstadt and BrunsbĂĽttel. Another route is the K 63 from Wilster towards BrunsbĂĽttel. Plan your journey according to current road conditions.
The Scheelenkuhlen front range light is located on the B 431. The red-and-white striped concrete tower was built in 1975 and is about 23 metres high. The front range light is freely accessible at all times; check access before setting out.
Village Culture in Sankt Margarethen
The church, the historic Dolling Huus village hall and the Klön Eck village pub are part of local cultural life. Performances in the “Musik im Dorf” series included music in Low German, rock and other styles, and took place at these venues.
Culture in the Wider Steinburg Destination
The wider Steinburg destination also has regional cultural attractions. The Detlefsen Museum in GlĂĽckstadt offers a comprehensive picture of GlĂĽckstadt and the Holstein Elbe marshes, past and present. The PrinzeĂźhof District Museum is housed in the oldest secular building in Itzehoe and presents the history and cultural history of the Steinburg district in the 19th and 20th centuries.
Goldsmith’s Workshop and Local Highlights
In Sankt Margarethen, you can visit Jewels by ADFK, a goldsmith’s workshop. Visitors can admire jewellery in the gallery over a cappuccino.
