When planning a trip to Schackendorf, three specific attractions take centre stage: canoe access to the Trave, the Landpartie 3 cycling route and the operating days of Dampf-Bahn-Club Holstein. They differ in focus and planning requirements: canoeing and the cycling loop are activities with different arrangements, while a visit to the railway club is tied to a set time slot.

Canoeing on the Trave and Landpartie 3

The Schackendorf canoe launch provides access to the Trave and is freely accessible at all times. The launch is located by a footbridge on the path from the Schackendorf sports ground to Ihlwald. There is ample parking at the sports ground for visitors using the canoe launch. Check access again before your trip.

Landpartie 3 is an approximately 28-kilometre cycling loop between Negernbötel and Bad Segeberg that passes through Schackendorf. Cyclists cross the Trave along the route and continue to Lake Ihlsee in Bad Segeberg. From there, the route leads into Ihlwald and then back to the starting point. As a loop, it offers a different planning framework from the individual canoe launch: for the cycling tour, the key details are the approximate total distance and the route described, while for the canoe launch, it is access to the Trave.

Village green and Dampf-Bahn-Club

The central village green has old trees and a modern playground and is used by residents and visitors. On Landpartie 3, cyclists turn here towards the sports ground. This makes the village green both part of the town centre and a specific point along the cycling route.

Dampf-Bahn-Club Holstein welcomes visitors from May to October on the first Sunday of each month, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Public train services run on these dates. If you would like to include the train service in your travel plans, take note of the monthly schedule and check the date before setting out. This fixed time slot distinguishes a visit to the club from the described options for planning a canoe trip or cycle ride.

Nature in the wider Segeberg destination

The landscape of the wider Segeberg destination takes many forms: Segeberg district brings together dense forests, clear lakes, vibrant hedgerows and lush meadows. Kiebitzholmer Moor and Trentmoor form a 535-hectare Natura 2000 site around ten kilometres northwest of Bad Segeberg. Kiebitzholmer Moor is a restorable raised bog in the Holstein Geest; the two bogs provide habitats for moor frogs and natterjack toads.

Another nature attraction in Segeberg is Eekholt Wildlife Park. It lies on the northern edge of Segeberg Forest, between Bad Bramstedt and Bad Segeberg, surrounded by the Osterau landscape. More than 700 animals from 100 species can be observed across 67 hectares. As animal numbers may change, check the latest information before visiting.
