Klein Gladebrügge: Cycling Route, Trave Valley and History
Accommodation in Klein Gladebrügge
Klein Gladebrügge brings together the landscape on the edge of the Trave Valley, a local circular cycling route, archaeological traces and an annual cultural programme. This gives the village several specific starting points for planning your trip: you can focus more on the cycle tour and bathing area, or explore its historical connections and events. Each topic represents a different side of the village, and you can give them more or less weight according to your interests.
Landscape and location
Klein Gladebrügge lies on the edge of the Trave Valley, in a varied hedgerow landscape; the Trave forms the western boundary of the municipality. The edge of the valley and the municipal boundary are therefore two distinct points of reference: the valley describes the location, while the river marks the municipality’s western boundary.
Cycling route and bathing area
A local circular route of about 24 km passes through Klein Gladebrügge, by the Gieselteich pond and the village oak, and then continues on to Traventhal. The approximate distance gives you a basis for planning your day, while the named points help bring the route to life. The route description dates from 2012, so check the route locally before setting off.
A small, unstaffed bathing area is located at the entrance to Klein Gladebrügge. It is about 2 km southeast of the town centre of Bad Segeberg. If you plan to swim there, check the bathing conditions and access before use.
Archaeology and commemorative heritage
Klein Gladebrügge’s archaeological history includes excavated Stone Age graves and the remains of the Slavic Ohlenborg, which was destroyed around 900 AD. A later memorial is the Rantzaustein on the road from Klein Gladebrügge to Traventhal. Its inscription, dating from 1575, commemorates the Danish King Frederick II and Heinrich Rantzau. The archaeological traces and the Rantzaustein also differ in form: excavated graves and remains on the one hand, and an inscription on a stone on the other.
Village cultural programme
The village cultural programme comprises four events each year, including concerts, readings and talks. Individual events and dates may change. If an event is a deciding factor in your trip, check in advance what is taking place on your planned dates.
In the wider Segeberg destination
The wider district landscape offers another setting within the Segeberg destination: the district combines dense forests, clear lakes, lively hedgerows and lush meadows. For cyclists, Holsteiner Quellenland, north of Bad Segeberg, offers seven circular routes. The local loop through Klein Gladebrügge is clearly mapped out at around 24 km, with named points along the way, while the seven regional loops offer a wider choice. If you are considering both options for your trip, check the respective routes and plan either for the local loop or a regional tour.
