Silberstedt combines a rural landscape with routes through the Treene region and traces of local history. If you want to make nature, hiking or cycling the focus of your stay, you will find several points of interest here. The history of the settlement area and agriculture is also part of the municipality’s character. These different themes can help guide you when choosing a hotel and planning your stay.

Landscape Around Silberstedt

Silberstedt is surrounded by green spaces, forests, bodies of water and traditional hedgerow landscapes. The Silberstedter Au is a tributary of the Treene. The Treene flows through a varied lowland landscape of meadows, pastures, moors and wetlands. Different landscape features therefore meet around the town, from cultivated land to wet lowlands.

The Rumbrand woodland lies along the municipality’s western boundary. It covers around 60 hectares, is protected as a Natura 2000 site and contains legally protected biotopes. Check locally before visiting to find out which access points are available. In the wider Schleswig-Flensburg travel destination, the Eider-Treene-Sorge river landscape is an important refuge for migratory birds and other animal and plant species.

Hiking, Cycling and Paddling

The natural surroundings around Silberstedt invite you to enjoy long walks and cycling tours. One specific point of reference is the Stapelholmer Way: it passes through Holm, a district of Silberstedt, and through the natural and cultural landscape of the Treene region. It is used for relaxed hikes. It is also part of a tourist cycling loop with the Ochsenweg and the Thorshammer Way, and connects with the Eider-Treene-Sorge Way.

The Stapelholmer Way therefore serves as both a hiking route and part of a cycling network. At the Bauer Jensen campsite, there is a canoe launch point with places to rest and buy snacks. The smaller Treene is considered suitable for family paddling. Hiking, cycling and paddling each offer a different focus: you can follow the routes or experience the landscape from the water.

Local History and Rural Character

The early dates refer to two different historical contexts. Rosacker is the oldest documented settlement within today’s municipality and was first mentioned in 1196. Silberstedt itself was first recorded in 1416 under the forms Suluerstede and Sulverstede. The earlier date therefore refers to Rosacker, not to the first mention of Silberstedt.

The agricultural character of the settlement can be seen in farmsteads, farms, and areas of grassland and cultivation. Older outbuildings are part of it too; most have been converted into residential homes. Another historical point of reference is the dairy cooperative at Hauptstraße 19: it was founded in 1884 and operated for more than a century. Together, these details reveal different sides of local history, from settlement development to agriculture.

The Oster Chapel offers a peaceful setting for quiet reflection. It is in a natural setting beside a meandering stream that flows into the Treene valley. If you wish to visit the chapel, check access in advance.

Location and Orientation

The municipality has good access to the B 201 and is close to the A7. Approximate distances to three cities provide a sense of location: Schleswig is around 14 kilometres away, Husum around 20 kilometres and Flensburg around 40 kilometres. These figures show how Silberstedt relates to nearby towns, while the landscape, routes and history describe the different points of interest in the area.
