The area's features offer some specific points of interest.

The Schafflund Watermill: History and Technology

Grain was being ground using water power at the Schafflund Watermill as early as around 1300. It was once considered the most important grain mill between the city limits of Flensburg and the marshland. The so-called mill obligation also shaped its importance: grain was brought to the mill from the surrounding area.

The large millpond stored energy for the mill's operation. Today, the waterwheel is turning again. A visit offers a glimpse inside the mill building and its historic machinery. The mill opens its doors once a year for Mill Day; check the date when planning your visit. As operating conditions can change, it's also worth checking the waterwheel's current status before visiting.

The Schafflund Watermill generates around 27,000 kilowatt-hours of renewable electricity each year. The annual amount may vary. In this way, the mill combines its historic role as a place for grinding grain with modern electricity generation, while these remain distinct functions.

For orientation: the historic mill is located in Schafflund behind deciduous trees, a short distance from the B199. It is also considered a peaceful destination for walks, especially for visitors interested in the history of technology.

Outdoor Swimming Pool and Cycling Region

Waldeck outdoor swimming pool in Schafflund has a large pool, a children's area, a sunbathing lawn and a kiosk. It is a popular meeting place for residents and visitors alike. Alongside the historic mill, the area therefore offers a very different attraction: spending time by the water at the outdoor pool.

The Schafflund Watermill is considered a destination or a stop along regional cycling routes. Those interested in this aspect can also view the mill in the context of the cycling region; the area's historical themes are not found solely at the mill building.

Hike through the Wallsbek Valley

One hiking route leads from the Romanesque church in WallsbĂĽll through the Wallsbek Valley to the Schafflund Watermill. The valley was formed during the Weichselian glaciation. This route therefore offers both a walk through the valley and the mill as a destination.
