Those looking for a hotel in Kronshagen can get a sense of the place from several aspects: its development from a farming village into a residential area of Kiel, its town centre designated as a protected ensemble, its public green spaces and its local sports facilities. This makes it possible to consider local history, a green townscape and sports as distinct priorities when choosing a destination.

Getting There and Finding Your Way

Kronshagen is accessible via the A210, A215 and B76. The railway stop reopened in December 2014; check current connections when planning your journey. Kiel city centre is approximately six kilometres from Kronshagen.

From Farming Village to Town Centre

By the end of the First World War, Kronshagen had developed from a farming village into a residential area of Kiel. Kronshagen town centre is designated as an urban ensemble. The ensemble includes the Seemann commercial building, a residential tower block with a shop, the former business premises of the Agricultural Purchasing Association from 1924, and the former municipal building from 1910/11. The designation as an ensemble focuses attention on the town centre as a whole; the buildings mentioned represent different types of building and uses.

Green Spaces in the Townscape

Kronshagen’s public green spaces are characterised by ornamental and fruit trees. Older parts of the town also have large plots, often with mature trees. Both public green spaces and the trees on older plots are therefore part of the garden-city character described here.

Sports and Facilities

The Kronshagen Gymnastics and Sports Club of 1924 e. V. offers activities including football, athletics, swimming, tennis, gymnastics and hiking. The range of activities may change. The two sports centres also differ in their facilities: the Kronshagen Primary School Sports Centre includes a sports hall, an assembly hall, gym rooms, a sports field and a teaching swimming pool. The Community School/Grammar School Sports Centre has two three-court sports halls, an artificial turf field, football pitches, athletics facilities and a beach volleyball court. Facility availability may depend on bookings or access rules. Check access to the facility you want to use before making plans.
