Pelzerhaken combines a long sandy beach with a diverse coastal landscape, walking paths and water activities. When choosing a hotel stay, you can consider whether beach walks, short routes or water sports are most important to you; the options differ in character.

Coastal landscape and beach

The coastal landscape between Pelzerhaken and Rettin is a Special Area of Conservation (SAC). It comprises a complete sequence of features: a former cliff, now wooded; a former lagoon lowland, used as grassland; a coastal dune and beach-ridge system; and the beach in front of it. The coastal landscape therefore encompasses more than the shoreline: former coastal landforms and today’s grassland use are also part of this landscape.

Pelzerhaken has the only south-facing beach in LĂĽbeck Bay. The sandy beach is a little over two kilometres long and is ideal for extended walks. For a longer route by the sea, it is an alternative to the short walks in the small Dittmer forest.

Walks and local features

The dune boardwalk along Pelzerhaken beach allows accessible walks, including with a pushchair or wheelchair. The pier extends exactly 135 metres out from the shore. At its end, you are surrounded by the sea on all sides. Compared with the beach, which is a little over two kilometres long, the pier is shorter and leads exactly 135 metres out to sea rather than along the shore.

The small Dittmer forest is suitable for short walks or a quick dog walk. Pelzerhaken therefore offers both longer beach walks and an explicitly short route. Pelzerhaken Chapel stands on the highest point in Pelzerhaken, adding a location above the rest of the town to its local features.

Leisure activities in Pelzerhaken

The ParkGolf course has a total of twelve walkable holes, offering another activity alongside walks and water sports.

An amber tour on Pelzerhaken beach is planned for the 2026–2027 season. Together with nature guide Martin C. Roos, participants search for amber on the Baltic coast; the tour also shares knowledge about amber’s formation, history and significance. Booking is required. Check the dates before your trip.

Parking and travel planning

In Pelzerhaken, larger parking areas close to the beach are located on DĂĽnenweg (P15) and Auf der Pelzerwiese / Surf City (P13); P10 is on Strandweg in Rettin. As parking regulations may change, check the current parking situation before setting off.

For the tour, you should also plan around the dates and booking requirements.
