Tetenbüll: Village History, Haus Peters and Hotels
Accommodation in Tetenbüll
Tetenbüll combines a largely protected historic village centre with a long history of houses and churches. When planning your trip, you can choose from a wide range of experiences: historic buildings and collections, paths by the harbour, and cycling routes through the municipality. You can tailor your stay to whether you mainly want to explore the village’s history or also spend time outdoors.
Historic Village Centre and Haus Peters
The historic village centre includes the cobbled streets of Bradenstraat, Dörpstraat and Karkenstraat, thatched houses and Haubarg farmhouses. Haus Peters is opposite St. Anna Church; an open-air museum with historic cars is also nearby. The buildings and paths give the village centre its distinctive character and make it a good starting point for a walk.
Haus Peters was built around 1760 and served as the residential wing of a Haubarg farmhouse from about 1850 to 1955. The house offers a glimpse into rural life in the 18th and 19th centuries. The historic building also includes a shop dating from 1820, considered the oldest rural general store in Schleswig-Holstein to have survived at its original location. The collections explore the historic village shop and the trade in goods in earlier times.
Haus Peters is a museum, gallery and shop. The gable room houses a Horst Janssen room with exhibits from the Eiderland portfolio and the Janssenhof. Historic roses grow in the garden, which also hosts outdoor events and craft markets. Visiting arrangements and the events programme may change, so check the latest information and dates if you are planning a visit.
St. Anna and the History of the Village
The late Gothic brick church of St. Anna stands on a medieval mound and is dedicated to Saint Anne. Construction probably began in the early 15th century. The church was extended and its tower built in 1491. Mature trees and old gravestones from the former churchyard stand on the mound. The church and its surroundings thus tell different chapters of the village’s history, from its medieval setting to later changes to the building.
Nature and Activities at the Harbour
At Everschopsiel/Tetenbüllspieker Harbour, a nature trail runs around the retention basin on the landward side of the dike. The path offers opportunities for birdwatching, and sunrise and sunset provide photo opportunities too. If you include the harbour in your plans, you will also find a bathing area with a bathing ladder, shower and benches. Facilities and access conditions may change, so check before your visit. Berths are available for visiting sailors; confirm availability before you arrive.
Cyclists will also find various options in Tetenbüll: the North Sea Cycle Route passes through the municipality. There are also signposted routes for short rides and full-day trips. Check the route and signage before setting off, as they may change. This lets you plan shorter loops and longer rides as outings of different durations, without treating both activities as the same kind of trip.
