The nature park has hiking trails, observation towers, nature trails and places to rest. Possible activities include hiking, cycling, canoeing and swimming in the refreshing forest lakes. Guided excursions with experts focus on the local flora and fauna as well as the cultural history of the district; if you plan to join one, check the current dates. From the observation tower at Lake Mechow, you can watch waterbirds. With a little luck, you may also spot a white-tailed eagle there.

Museums and Culture in the Region

The museums also cover a range of different topics. The Elbe Shipping Museum in Lauenburg/Elbe features the interactive, three-storey exhibition “People–Model–Machine” about shipping. Visitors can get hands-on with models and interactive stations. The Duchy of Lauenburg District Museum in Ratzeburg displays exhibits on the history of the Dukes of Lauenburg and the inner-German border.
