Discover Zwota
Accommodation in Zwota
Zwota brings together signposted hiking trails, regional collections and recurring events. You can plan your stay around different interests: spend time outdoors, explore local dialect and music, or attend a festival. If you’re looking for hotels in Zwota, first decide whether a hike, a museum visit or a particular event should shape your travel dates.
Hiking in and around Zwota
Well-signposted trails include the Klingenthal-Zwota circular trail (Höhensteig), the Vogtland Panorama Trail and six local routes. The Höhensteig circular trail is certified as a “Quality Trail Wanderbares Deutschland.” The local trails are called “Around the Zwota Valley,” “Hoher Brand” in the Elster Mountains, “Sankt-Peters-Brunnen near Kottenheide,” “Raubschloss in the Klausenbach Valley,” “Source of the Zwota,” and “Glasbachtal and Herrenberg.”
The six local routes range from 9.2 to 13.5 km in length. Route 6, “Glasbachtal and Herrenberg,” is 9.2 km long, placing it at the shorter end of this range. These figures make it possible to compare the route lengths directly, without estimating how long a walk might take.
Nature Trail and Nature Reserve
The HĂĽttenbachtal Nature Trail runs from 600 to 800 m above sea level. Its 21 information boards cover flora, fauna, history and geology. The trail thus combines nature topics with historical and geological content.
The “Hüttenbach” nature reserve covers 43.44 hectares and is part of the Erzgebirge/Vogtland Nature Park. It is another point of interest for anyone who wants to take the landscape and natural environment into account when planning their stay.
Music, Local Dialect and Collections
The Zwota Accordion Museum has a collection of more than 1,000 instruments. These include harmonicas, diatonic button accordions and concertinas from the 19th century. The collection also features instruments from the “Arnold” bandoneon factory in Carlsfeld in the Ore Mountains, as well as accordions of various types, including top models from the former Klingenthal Accordion Works.
The Zwota Local Dialect and Experience Center focuses on something different: it presents books of local dialect literature, films from the region and constantly changing special exhibitions. Here, instruments take center stage on the one hand, while local dialect, film and changing exhibition themes take center stage on the other.
The Eibisch depot is located in the former Denk brewery in the center of Zwota. Its extensive exhibition includes historic woodworking tools and historic toys, as well as an annual Christmas exhibition. Visits are by appointment.
Festivals, Theatre and Guided Tours
The Zwota fair is a three-day festival featuring music and a festival tent. It runs from Friday to Sunday, ten weeks after Pentecost. Another recurring event is the local dialect and film evening, held every year on December 27. If you’re planning your trip around one of these events, check the date against your planned travel period in advance.
The history of the Zwota Forest Stage can also be placed on a timeline: the first event was held there at the open-air theatre on August 21, 2021; regular performances resumed in 2022.
On a guided tour of Zwota, Georg Carsten Eibisch appears either as a night watchman by the light of a dark lantern or as a barrel-organ player providing musical accompaniment. The two roles bring different touches to the tour.
Panoramic Views of Klingenthal and Zwota
The “Lange Bank” (Long Bench) is 40.13 m long and offers panoramic views of Klingenthal and Zwota. It adds a viewpoint with a clearly defined vista to the hiking routes, exhibitions and event dates.
