Discover Weischlitz
Accommodation in Weischlitz
Weischlitz is a good starting point or stopover for hikes. Many routes are designed to take you to a railway station, where you can catch the Vogtlandbahn back. This lets you include the return journey in a point-to-point hike without having to return to your starting point. Before setting out, check which station is on your chosen route and whether the current train times fit your plans.
Plan your hike and journey
Weischlitz is served by the Elstertalbahn along the White Elster and can also be reached from Zwickau on regional train RB 2. Local buses, including on-demand services, run to outlying villages. As timetables and service arrangements may change, check the latest connections before travelling and before taking buses to the outlying villages. If you are combining train, bus, and hiking, it is best to plan your outward and return journeys together with the route of your hike.
Local cultural history
In Krebes, you can visit a summer house that serves as a museum. Access may be seasonal or by arrangement, so check in advance which visiting option applies on your chosen date. The Altenhaus offers a glimpse into the traditional way of life of Vogtland farmers. The area also preserves traces of historic copper mining and the reconstructed KienmĂĽhle. Its attractions cover rural life, mining remains, and a rebuilt mill.
The Vogtland: regional highlights
In Klingenthal, the Sparkasse Vogtland Arena is one of Europe’s most modern large ski jumps. An adventure railway takes visitors to the 32-metre-high jump tower, which offers views across Klingenthal. In Markneukirchen, the Musical Instrument Museum displays the world’s largest playable violin. Musical instruments have been made in the Upper Vogtland for more than 350 years. Together, the large ski jump and instrument making represent two distinct regional highlights.
The Göltzsch Viaduct is one of the two largest brick bridges in the world. In Bad Elster, the Royal Grounds bring together extensive historic parks and spa architecture of cultural and historical significance. Bad Elster also has ten mineral springs and natural moorland peat. The examples range from brick construction to parkland and spa architecture.
The Vogtland’s routes and cycling options are worth exploring too: the Vogtland Panorama Trail is 225 kilometres long. Most cycle paths in the Vogtland are near a bus stop or railway station; bicycles can be carried free of charge, subject to vehicle capacity. Check the timetable and whether bicycles can be carried on your connection. Green dumplings, made from raw grated potatoes, are a Vogtland speciality. Gündel’s Kulturstall in Reichenbach regularly holds potato tastings, and a potato market takes place there in autumn. Check the latest dates before visiting.
