Discover Pausa-Mühltroff
Accommodation in Pausa-Mühltroff
Pausa-Mühltroff offers a variety of things to explore during your stay: the history of Mühltroff Castle, the history of Pausa, and routes for walking and cycling. Each place and activity has its own focus—from architecture and exhibitions to outdoor pursuits. The outdoor swimming pool and several springs and scenic spots are also among the specific places to visit. Bear seasonal conditions and changing programs in mind when planning your trip.
Mühltroff Castle and its history
Mühltroff Castle was built as a lowland castle on a greenstone rock and was first mentioned in a document in 1349. It formerly served as a seat of lordship and administration. The medieval defensive and watchtower is considered the architectural centerpiece of the complex. The castle includes a local history room and a textile demonstration workshop; access to individual rooms may vary.
The castle rooms are also used in a variety of ways: the Kospoth Hall and the fireplace room host exhibitions, concerts and weddings. Their use and the program may change. The art gallery presents changing exhibitions each year; its program may also change. If you are planning a visit, check the latest information about the rooms and events.
Town history and places of remembrance
St. Michael's Church in Pausa was rebuilt in 1825 following the town fire of 1822. A Steinmüller organ with two manuals and 20 stops was installed there in 1831. The fire, rebuilding and organ can thus be seen as successive chapters in the town's history.
The Mühltroff GDR Museum preserves memories of 40 years of everyday life in the former GDR. In around 300 square meters across ten rooms, it displays more than 4,000 large and small exhibits. Its floor area, number of rooms and collection give an impression of the museum's scale; its subject matter provides a different historical focus from the castle and church. The historic railway station building in Mühltroff, on the Schönberg–Schleiz West railway line, has also been preserved.
Walking, cycling and swimming
The “Around the Earth-Axis Town” circular route has a shorter and a longer option of approximately 8.5 and 16.5 kilometers, respectively. This lets you plan your walk according to your preferred distance; both figures are approximate. The route runs mostly along paved forest and field paths, as well as sections beside roads. The route and trail conditions may change due to maintenance work, detours or seasonal changes. Check the current route before setting out.
The West Vogtland cycling route passes through Mühltroff and reaches the center of the Earth in Pausa. It connects Pausa-Mühltroff to Saxony's long-distance cycling network and the Thuringian cycling network. The route includes steeper climbs with views across the Vogtland's hilly landscape. Connections and signage may change, so it is worth checking the current route information before a bike ride, too.
You can view and grease the Earth axis in the basement of the town hall; access arrangements for visitors may vary. Pausa outdoor swimming pool has a waterslide, a large sunbathing lawn, and swimming, non-swimmer, diving and children's paddling pools. Facilities also include table tennis and volleyball areas. Seasonal opening may vary; check before your visit.
Other places and the regional setting
There is an orchid meadow on Jahnberg, whose seasonal appearance may vary. Gottesgeschenk and Albertquelle each have a well house. Eckardts Park is behind the former bathhouse. Reinhardtsquelle is in Bad Linda; conditions at the spring may vary. Linda is home to the medieval ring rampart complex, where access conditions may vary.
Pausa-Mühltroff is part of the Vogtland Mill Quarter within the wider Vogtland region, which stretches across Saxony, Thuringia, Bavaria and Bohemia. This places the town in a broader regional context, while the castle, museum, routes and other places to visit offer different focuses for your stay.
