When planning a hotel stay in Priestewitz, rail connections, churches and routes through different landscapes may shape your choice of destination. Priestewitz is located in the Southern Großenhain Agricultural Region, a transitional landscape between upland and lowland areas. The area’s features offer different starting points for planning your trip—from getting there to exploring cultural and natural attractions.

Getting There and Finding Your Way

Priestewitz railway station has connections towards Dresden–Leipzig, Dresden–Hoyerswerda, Dresden–Cottbus and Dresden–Elsterwerda-Biehla. The municipal bus network also offers a direct connection to the station; bus route 458 connects to Moritzburg. As timetables and connections can change, it is worth checking the latest information before you set off.

Bicycle parking is available at the station. This may be helpful when planning to combine train and bicycle journeys. Your specific plans will depend on which connection and route you want to use.

Landscape Between Uplands and Stream Valleys

The Southern Großenhain Agricultural Region is characterized by uplands, depressions and hills. Loess and sandy loess shape the landscape, and the area is considered fertile farmland. By contrast, grassland predominates in the floodplains of the Hopfenbach and Bierlichtbach streams. There, natural stream courses and individual trees shape the landscape.

The Kmehlen-Wantewitz loess hill country also brings together a variety of features: orchards, woodland, villages, natural stretches of stream and grassland. The Priestewitz landscape area also includes the Seußlitzer and Gauernitzer Gründe nature reserve and woodland areas such as Gävernitzer Heidchen.

The Nauleis Reservoir covers around 51 hectares. It serves flood protection, fishing and the raising of low water levels. It adds another feature to the landscape, alongside the farmland and stream valleys.

Churches and Historic Ensembles

Churches in the Priestewitz area include the Urbanskirche in Wantewitz, the Peterskirche in Lenz and the Johanneskirche Strießen. The Urbanskirche is a protected neo-Gothic church on a hill, visible across the surrounding landscape. It was designed by Christian Friedrich Arnold and consecrated in 1864. It has around 700 seats.

The Rittergut Baselitz, Schloss Dallwitz and Rittergut Zottewitz are also listed as historic ensembles. If you plan to visit the interior of a church or ensemble, check the relevant access arrangements in advance.

Walking, Cycling and Horse-Riding Routes

The Green Stripe walking trail runs southwest from Weßnitz towards Hopfenmühle, then north along the railway towards Zschauitz. The Red Dot route comes from the Seußlitzer Gründe and follows Thonberg towards Laubach. These two route descriptions provide different directions and place names to help you plan your walks.

The Großenhain Agricultural Region circular route is another named cycling route: it runs from Hohndorf via Nauleis and Döbritzschen towards Großenhain. A regional horse-riding route also runs near Nauleis, in the eastern part of the planning area. When planning, check the signs and trail conditions on site; for the riding route, also check the specific rules for horse riding.
