Trebsen/Mulde lies directly on the Mulde. Cycling routes, paddling, geology and historic buildings offer different ways to shape a trip. If you are looking for a hotel in Trebsen/Mulde, you can first decide whether you would like to focus your stay mainly on cycling, the water, or architectural and church history.

Cycling routes through Trebsen and on to the Elbe

The Mulde Cycle Route through Trebsen passes the town church, the manor estate and Trebsen Castle with its adjoining park. The 45.6-kilometre Mulde-Elbe Cycle Tour also starts at Trebsen market square. It leads to the Elbe near Strehla, where it connects to the Elbe Cycle Route. The first section from Trebsen is not signposted; a map makes it easier to find your way.

Different route-planning questions are therefore relevant: would you like to follow a route that takes in the town’s historic buildings, or plan a 45.6-kilometre tour to the Elbe? The Mulde-Elbe Cycle Tour has a named starting point, destination and distance.

The Mulde, paddling and geology

There are also specific landmarks for getting out on the water: paddlers can launch at the Neichen weir and take their boats out of the water again at Trebsen Castle. Trebsen’s stony character is linked to its location in the Porphyrland Geopark and volcanic eruptions around 290 million years ago.

The Geo-Erlebnis-Werkstatt at the Trebsen manor estate has an exhibition of regional minerals and rocks. At events, parents and children can polish gemstones or prisms and learn about blacksmithing techniques. The workshop thus combines geological topics with hands-on activities for this audience.

Castle, park and churches

Trebsen Castle stands on the western bank of the Mulde and is a late Gothic, four-winged building. The ground floor has characteristic cell vaults, which can also be seen in the restaurant. The English landscape park was laid out in the 18th century and is largely intact. Jazz and blues events at the Trebsen manor estate are a regular part of regional cultural life. If you plan to attend one of these events, check the specific dates before your trip.

Trebsen’s stone church dates back to a three-aisled basilica built around 1150. A ceiling painting depicting the Assumption of the Prophet Elijah dates from 1701. Original men’s pews dating from 1755 have been preserved in the second gallery; the Eule organ in Trebsen town church was donated in 1926. A sundial on the church dates from before 1800, was reconstructed in 1975 and serves as a signpost for travellers on the Luther Trail. The Judithstein gravestone is also among the historic testimonies: it is considered one of the oldest Romanesque gravestones in Saxony.

St. Johannis is located in the Trebsen district of Altenhain. The church was built in 1787 as a Neoclassical hall church with a square west tower. Its design and the older basilica origins of Trebsen’s stone church represent two different chapters in the town’s church history.
