Kitzscher: Cultural History and Routes
Accommodation in Kitzscher
A stay in Kitzscher can bring together a variety of interests: the local history museum and the miners’ settlement offer insights into local and everyday history, while the bus routes mentioned provide specific connections. If you are looking for a hotel, you can weigh up whether culture, architecture or a particular connection is especially important for your trip.
Local History and Housing in Kitzscher
The Kitzscher Local History Museum displays everyday objects from earlier times, a model of the former Kitzscher Castle, and documents about land reform in Kitzscher and the surrounding area. There are also changing exhibitions showcasing artistic hobbies and supporting regional artists. The themes thus range from everyday history and a specific development in the region to creative work. Historical ways of life and changing cultural themes therefore offer different perspectives side by side.
The first construction phase of the Kitzscher miners’ settlement brought the historic village fabric into harmony with a clearly distinct urban structure. Before construction was halted due to the war in 1942–43, about 400 housing units had been built in the Kitzscher miners’ settlement. The types of housing also provide insight into the standards of the time: all terraced houses and most apartment buildings had garden areas. Bathrooms and indoor toilets were considered a high standard for workers’ households at the time. The settlement’s basic layout, gardens and interior fittings thus show different aspects of its history: its urban design as well as everyday life at home.

A circular visitor trail has been in place at the Trages spoil tip since 1999.
