Hundshübel: Local History and Trails by the Reservoir
Accommodation in Hundshübel
Hundshübel combines local history with places to visit at the Eibenstock Reservoir. When planning your trip, it is worth considering the different highlights: the Nadlerhaus and the Mühle Collection tell the story of history and everyday culture, while views and trails take centre stage at the reservoir. If you are looking for a hotel in Hundshübel, these themes can help you choose the focus you want for your stay.
Local History from Different Perspectives
The Nadlerhaus is one of the oldest buildings in Hundshübel. This Erzgebirge day labourer's house was built around 1750 and has largely been preserved in its original condition. The local history room offers insights into life in the area in earlier times. Guided tours with information about the building's history can be arranged by prior appointment. If you would like to learn more about this background, include an advance booking in your visit plans.
The Mühle Collection is a shaving museum with around 2,000 exhibits on 200 years of shaving culture. It is displayed in a historic 1930s salon. Visits are possible on request, including for tour groups. While the local history room offers insights into life in Hundshübel in earlier times, the Mühle Collection focuses on the cultural history of shaving. The visiting arrangements differ: tours of the Nadlerhaus can be arranged by prior appointment, while visits to the Mühle Collection are possible on request.
The church in Hundshübel also has a history spanning more than 200 years. It adds another point of interest to the village's historical attractions.
Views and Trails by the Reservoir
From Viechzig, the highest point in Hundshübel, the view stretches across the Eibenstock Reservoir to the ridge of the Erzgebirge and the Auersberg.
The Hundshübel Forest Nature Trail lies directly beside the Eibenstock Reservoir in the Erzgebirge/Vogtland Nature Park. It is an easy circular trail measuring 2.12 kilometres. The circular route around the Eibenstock Reservoir is also used for cycling. A panoramic hike around the reservoir includes a detour to the Viechzig rest area in Hundshübel.
The Marienweg and Its Themes
The “At the Eibenstock Reservoir / Marienweg” trail starts and ends at the Hundshübel forebay. Along the Marienweg, 15 information boards explain the region's past and the landscape before the Eibenstock Reservoir was built.
There is also a Kneipp facility along the Marienweg. The trail includes a section where visitors can walk onto the dam wall of the Eibenstock Reservoir. Check the access conditions before your visit.
When choosing a route, you can compare the details directly: the forest nature trail is defined by its length and easy rating, while the reservoir circuit is also used for cycling. The Marienweg has information boards and a shared start and finish point, while the panoramic hike includes a detour to the Viechzig rest area. This lets you choose based on the type of route, its theme or a specific destination.
