When looking for a hotel in Haldensleben, first consider the character of your stay. The town walls, gate tower and museum offer insights into the town’s history; the cycle routes vary considerably in length. The wider Börde travel destination also offers its own regional setting of landscapes and cultural sites.

Town History at the Walls, Gate and Roland Statue

The historic old town is enclosed by 1.6 kilometres of town walls. Its medieval street plan, with lanes, squares, half-timbered houses and town towers, has remained almost unchanged. The town’s layout and individual buildings offer different perspectives on Haldensleben’s history. The Bülstringen Gate Tower was built around 1250–1260. The Equestrian Roland stands out compared with other Roland statues: of the 24 surviving figures, it is the only one depicted on horseback.

Museum and Cultural Themes

Since 1910, the Haldensleben Museum has been housed in a classically designed stucco building constructed in 1865–1866. The two dates refer to different stages: the construction of the building and its later use as a museum. One part of the museum is devoted to the partial estate of Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm.

Other themes bring together nature experiences and crafts. The House of the Forest offers interactive learning about the forest through play, exploration and practical activities. The landscaped park connects Hundisburg with Althaldensleben and offers opportunities for long walks. At the Hundisburg Brickworks Industrial Monument, brickmaking and a technology museum meet the production of hand-moulded bricks; there are also guided tours of the technology museum, courses and regular events.

Cycle Routes and Water Sports

The distances provide a concrete basis for comparing the cycle routes: the Aller-Elbe Cycle Route is around 80 kilometres long, connects the Aller and Elbe cycle routes, and passes through the historic old town. The Ohre-Beber Cycle Route forms an approximately 12-kilometre route around Haldensleben. The two options therefore differ both in length and in their described routes.

Haldensleben’s location on the Mittelland Canal offers water sports opportunities at the marina and at the Haldensleben Rolli-Bad. Check visitor access and operating details before your trip. This will allow you to adapt this part of your plans to the actual access and operations on site.

The Wider Börde Travel Destination

In the wider Börde travel destination, the district stretches from the fertile Börde in the south—the largest contiguous loess soil region in Germany—to the meadows and wetlands of the Drömling in the north. Wooded ridges and the Colbitz-Letzlinger Heide, home to Europe’s largest continuous lime forest, characterise the centre of the district. This landscape setting differs from Haldensleben’s town and cycle-route themes.

Cultural destinations in Börde District include churches, monasteries, palaces, castles, museums and historic architectural monuments. The “Romanesque Road” includes ten different sites for visitors there. Hundisburg Palace is one of Saxony-Anhalt’s most important rural Baroque palaces; its historic gardens and parklands include a Baroque garden distinguished by its symmetry and detailed garden design. The palace and Baroque garden are also a stop on Garden Dreams – Historic Parks in Saxony-Anhalt.

The Hundisburg Brickworks Industrial Monument is also among the region’s attractions. In addition to the brickworks and technology museum, it includes a coarse ceramics workshop for moulding and pottery, a building materials workshop and a carpentry workshop. The historic narrow-gauge railway offers a visitor ride of about two kilometres, passing historic kilns, a bucket-chain excavator and the former clay pit. In the Börde context, industrial heritage and historic garden design sit alongside the region’s landscapes.
