Coming from Trier, Kenn is considered the gateway to the Roman Wine Route. When planning a trip to Kenn, several interests come together: wine country and cycling, Roman history, and opportunities for exercise and relaxation. If you are looking for a hotel in Kenn, you can consider these themes as different focuses for your trip.

Vineyards and Landscape

The Kenner Flur beside the Moselle is farmland interspersed with gravel and sand. Above Kenn, the landscape rises from vineyards through orchards to woodland. Local vineyard sites include Kenner Held and Maximiner Hofgarten; both belong to the Probstberg wine-growing district. The two names refer to individual vineyard sites; Probstberg is the higher-level wine-growing group.

The Roman Wine Route stretches from Kenn to Leiwen and includes 19 holiday resorts. Experiences in the Roman Wine Route area include wine tastings at nearby wineries. Many places along the Moselle also have StrauĂźwirtschaften, seasonal wine taverns serving dishes from the winery paired with suitable wines. The businesses and their opening hours vary; check specific offerings before stopping for a meal. The section of the Roman Wine Route between Kenn and Leiwen accounts for 20 percent of the Moselle wine-growing area, equivalent to 2,000 hectares. This figure illustrates the size of the area regionally; it may change over time.

Roman History and Kenn’s Village Center

A large Roman estate stood in Kenn at a place called Canna, a name meaning “reeds.” The historic village center developed on the remains of the estate. Kenn thus brings together the history of the Roman complex and the village’s later development.

The Herrenbrunnen fountain probably dates from around 1500, features late Gothic stylistic elements, and is considered the oldest surviving village fountain in the Trier-Saarburg district.

The local history museum is laid out as a fully furnished farmhouse and displays more than 800 exhibits on rural life in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is currently closed; check whether it will be open before visiting.

Cycling, Walks and Leisure

Kenn has direct access to the Moselle Cycle Route. A cycling trip from Kenn to Trier is also a good option. Quiet vineyard paths lie above Kenn and are suitable for leisurely walks. This offers different ways to stay active: cycling with direct access to the Moselle Cycle Route and peaceful walks along the vineyard paths above the village.

The Bernhard-Becker recreational complex includes a playground, a football and basketball area, and spaces for skateboarding and roller skating. The Kneipp footbath in Kenn offers a peaceful way to relax and enjoy some leisure time. While the recreational complex brings together several activities, the footbath offers a quieter alternative.
