Conditions may affect access; check before visiting.

Two cycling routes in the Kastellaun area can be distinguished by their length: the Schinderhannes Cycle Route is 38 kilometres long, while the Hunsrück-Mosel Cycle Route is 30 kilometres long. The latter runs from Kastellaun towards Treis-Karden, mostly across fields, through woodland and along quiet roads. In the Middle Rhine Valley area, the Rhine forms the district’s eastern boundary.

The Saar-Hunsrück Trail crosses the Hunsrück via Kastellaun to the Rhine at Boppard and covers a total of 410 kilometres over 27 stages. Several circular routes between 3 and 14 kilometres long run around the Geierlay Bridge; the visitor centre in Mörsdorf is both the starting point and the finish. The Geierlay Dream Loop is 6.6 kilometres long and rated moderate. The suspension bridge lies between Mörsdorf and Sosberg and is 360 metres long and 100 metres high. Check the current route before setting out on a specific hike.

During the 2026 season, RadBus line 629, the RadBus Hunsrück-Mosel, supports cycling trips on the Schinderhannes Cycle Route between Kastellaun and Emmelshausen, as well as on the Schinderhannes-Untermosel Cycle Route between Emmelshausen and the Mosel. Check the timetable information valid for your travel date before setting out.

Parts of the Hunsrück-Mittelrhein collective municipality and the town of Boppard in the Rhein-Hunsrück district belong to the Upper Middle Rhine Valley UNESCO World Heritage Site. The site was recognised in 2002.
