Uelversheim combines historic sites in the village center with hiking and cycling trails through vineyards and the rolling Rheinhessen countryside. For your travel planning, it is worth exploring both sides of the village: its architectural and local history can be seen at specific sites, while the trails and viewpoints bring the landscape into focus.

Castle and Historic Village Center

The signposted Historic Village Tour leads through the historic village center. Its stops include the historic town hall dating from 1797, Leiningen Castle, old houses around the church, and the village fountain. The different stops offer insights into various aspects of the village’s character, from the town hall and castle to its houses and fountain.

Uelversheim Castle reveals a sequence of events: in the mid-18th century, a residential building on the local Counts’ estate was converted into a country castle. After its completion, the castle served as a summer residence for the Counts of Leiningen. Its construction history and subsequent use are among the village’s notable historical themes.

The Protestant parish church is also one of Uelversheim’s notable buildings. Its unusual design is considered unique in Rheinhessen. Another historic tour stop is a Celtic burial site dating to around 50 BC. The former small chapel at the ditch served the Catholic community for worship and religious instruction until 1983; the building is privately owned.

Viticulture is another part of the village’s history. During the spraying season from May to September, the former spray-mixing house supplied local winegrowers with premixed spray solution. The Wäschbach stop, with its spray-mixing house, also focuses on the Sasselbach: the village ditch runs through Uelversheim from west to east. The historic sites thus bring together architectural history and the history of the local wine industry.

Hiking Trails, Vineyards and Views

Uelversheim and the surrounding area have an extensive network of hiking and cycling trails. Routes through the vineyards or alongside the water offer views of the landscape against a historic backdrop. Trails around the village cross the rolling Rheinhessen countryside; the Rebmustergarten offers distant views towards the Taunus, Odenwald, Donnersberg, and Binger Loch.

At the Junghennblick viewpoint, there are two tables with benches. An information board helps visitors identify landmarks in the surrounding landscape. Two local biotopes are additional places to spend time in nature. Check local access conditions before visiting.

One specific route leads to the Graunsberghäuschen: a paved farm track crosses the Sasselbach and climbs through the vineyards. The return route follows a farm track to the cemetery. The little house has a landscaped outdoor area and, inside, a built-in masonry bench running around the walls where visitors can rest. As trail conditions may change, check the route before setting out.
