Nußbach: Local History and Routes Through the Landscape
Accommodation in Nußbach
Nußbach combines local history with routes through forests and open countryside. The Alte Welt Museum, historic buildings and surrounding routes each offer a different focus. When planning your trip, you can consider whether exhibitions and architecture or time outdoors should take center stage.
Museum in Haus Wildanger
The Alte Welt Museum is housed in Haus Wildanger in the center of Nußbach. The building was constructed in 1721; the museum opened in 2002, after Haus Wildanger had been converted into a village community center. The construction period, change of use and museum opening mark different chapters in the history of this building.
The permanent exhibition explains flax processing, from flax as a plant through weaving to sewing with sewing machines. There are also rotating special exhibitions on a range of topics. If a particular exhibition is important to you, check in advance whether it is currently on the program.
Historic Buildings and Architectural Styles
The Laubenhaus at Bachstraße 2 dates from around 1700 and is partly timber-framed. The building includes an open gallery and a stable and barn; it is a distinctive feature of Nußbach’s streetscape. The combination of these elements gives the house its own architectural character.
The Protestant Church of St. Martinus is a Heimatstil building dating from 1911/12. Its original furnishings include a Walcker organ, installed in 1912. If you would like to see the interior, check visiting arrangements in advance, as access to the interior may vary.
The building at Hauptstraße 12 is also in the Heimatstil: Dünnbier of Kaiserslautern designed it, and it was built in 1913. The Winkelhof at Hauptstraße 42 is a partly timber-framed house dating from 1717. Taken together, the timber-framed houses from around 1700 and the Heimatstil buildings of 1911/12 and 1913 illustrate two different phases of construction.
