When choosing Niederweiler as a travel destination, you can focus on its history or enjoy a walk outdoors. Local historical attractions include Roman remains, St. Blasius and two niche crosses; the Four Seasons Walk is a circular route around Niederweiler.

Roman Finds and Religious Art

Roman remains have been found beneath the Zinswiese and the old road, as well as in the Krambusch and Vor dem Krambusch areas. They offer an archaeological perspective on the village’s history alongside its religious artworks. The branch church of St. Blasius is located in the center of Niederweiler. It has been lovingly renovated and is well maintained, and contains panels of the Fourteen Holy Helpers.

The St. Blasius chapel dates from around 1700 and is decorated with folk-style wall paintings of the Fourteen Holy Helpers and the Holy Trinity. It contains an altar with columns, dated 1738, with a broken pediment and figures of Saint Eustace and Saint Blasius. A broken pediment is a pediment with a gap in its outline. Two niche crosses in Niederweiler date from around 1600 and 1620, so they predate the altar. Historically, the chapel was a destination for a regional pilgrimage.

The Four Seasons Walk

The Four Seasons Walk is an extended circular route around Niederweiler and a walk for the whole family. There are viewpoints along the route, which is suitable for strollers. Unlike the village’s history-related attractions, this walk centers on a longer outing. The route is a GPS-only hike and is not signposted on site. Be sure to plan for GPS navigation.
