Local history, birdlife and road connections offer different starting points for planning a trip to Flomborn. When looking for a hotel in Flomborn, you can decide whether to focus on the village center, a short route around the village or the road connections.

Historic traces in the village

The historic town hall stands in Flomborn’s old village center. It dates from 1765 and is a protected historic building. There is also the public sculpture Flomborner Wutz by Florian Geyer. It refers to the historic weighing of livestock levies and thus takes up a local theme.

The Protestant parish church was expanded to its present hall form in 1779. Its organ, built by the Stumm brothers’ workshop, was acquired in 1783; following its restoration, it is in demand as a concert instrument. Gravestones from the 18th and 19th centuries stand in the churchyard. Another testimony to the past is the Neolithic burial ground near Flomborn, regarded as one of the significant archaeological sites of early farming culture in Central Europe.

The baking tradition is also closely connected to the village: for the first bread-baking session at the Flomborn bakehouse, a wood-fired stone oven was heated for five hours until it reached baking temperature. The long firing time illustrates the step that came before baking.

Bird trail and green village outskirts

The bird trail is a short route that loops around and passes through the village. Its 14 interactive panels focus on local flora and fauna. They also cover the habitats along the route and the bird species found there. Since the condition of the panels may change, it is best to check on site what is currently usable.

Flomborn is almost completely surrounded by a green belt that includes the bird trail, a pond and walking paths for local recreation. A section of woodland designated as a protected landscape feature also extends into Flomborn; together with a pond, it forms an ensemble. This brings both the nature themes of the educational trail and the combination of woodland and water into focus within the immediate vicinity of the village.

For a different kind of leisure activity, Flomborn’s boules court is freely accessible. Bring your own boules. This lets you plan a game independently, while the bird trail offers a themed introduction to local habitats and bird species.
