The Viersen County Rail Trail is 122.8 kilometres long. It runs on or alongside disused railway lines, passes through open fields and quiet forests, and reaches the lake district of the Krickenbecker Seen.

The Viersen circular route also offers regional trails and excursion destinations. A good starting point is the Niers boat landing in Viersen-Süchteln. From there, the route initially follows the Niers for several kilometres through the Saalbruch nature reserve. Detours lead to the Clörather Mühle viewpoint and to Dülken’s historic town centre at cycling junction 40. The historic Geschichtsmeile and the Narrenmühle are among the sights along the way; the Narrenmühle is an old post mill with a carnival museum.
