Discover Ochtrup
Accommodation in Ochtrup
Ochtrup is a destination for travelers who want to include green spaces, culture and craft traditions in their plans. The city offers a range of attractions, including the city park, the KulturPUR cultural festival, two museums, a historic windmill and the collegiate church in Langenhorst. When planning your dates, it is worth distinguishing the annual festival period from October to November from the windmill’s individual opening dates.
City Park and Culture Throughout the Year
In Ochtrup City Park, streams, ponds, flower beds, lawns and mature trees invite you to stroll and explore. Facilities there include an 18-hole mini-golf course, boules courts, a table-tennis table, a wildlife enclosure and a bee house. So alongside a walk through the park, there are also specific recreational activities to choose from. If a particular facility is key to your visit, check its current status on site, as park facilities may change.
The Ochtrup cultural festival “KulturPUR” takes place annually from October to November and features concerts, exhibitions, readings, cabaret and small-scale performing arts. The program spans music and exhibitions as well as literature and stage performances. If you are planning your trip around a specific event, check the dates and program for that year.
Textile and Pottery History
The Leineweberhaus in Beckerpassage (Laurenzstr. 5–7) showcases Ochtrup’s textile history. Exhibits include numerous historical documents, a 150-year-old loom, spinning wheels and a flax breaker. Together, the documents and equipment cover different aspects of textile history: written records and objects used in craft work.
The Ochtrup Pottery Museum combines pottery with a historic setting: it is housed in a farmhouse built in 1678 that once belonged to the Eiling family of potters from Ochtrup. Pottery courses on a variety of topics for all ages are held there regularly. If a course is key to your trip, contact the museum in advance for current details.
Windmill Construction and Church Architecture
The Bergwindmühle on Ochtruper Berg adds the milling trade to the museum themes. It is a grain windmill built in 1848, of the Wallholländer type, and one of the last windmills of this kind built in the Dutch style. The mill opens on Mill Day and during various traditional festivals; at those times, it gives visitors of all ages an insight into the old milling trade. If you are planning a visit, check the current opening dates with the organizer.
The collegiate church, completed around 1230, stands in Langenhorst. It is a hall church with two transepts, two towers, a gallery and unusually rich wall articulation, and is one of the most significant surviving hall churches in the MĂĽnsterland region. Its architectural form and intricate design create a distinctive architectural focus alongside the craft-related themes of the museums and the mill.
