Radevormwald: Culture, Museums and Trails
Accommodation in Radevormwald
Radevormwald offers plenty to explore during a stay focused on culture, history and outdoor activities. You can plan your trip around whether you want to focus on museums and industrial history or on trails and waterside recreation. The town brings together a range of themes without turning them into a single sightseeing itinerary.
Museums, Industrial History and Art
The Wülfing Museum makes the history of the former Johann Wülfing & Sohn textile factory accessible to visitors. The IG Bismarck Two-Wheeler Museum is housed in Textilstadt Wülfing in Radevormwald-Dahlerau. It displays numerous exhibits, many of them still in their original condition. The museums therefore have different focuses: one on the history of a former textile business, the other on an exhibition featuring many well-preserved original exhibits.
The Wülfing Museum cafeteria may also be relevant when planning a group day out: it offers a Bergisch coffee table for groups of eight or more. Advance reservations are required. Since catering options may change, it is advisable to confirm your reservation again before your visit.
The museum route includes four museums and offers another way to plan cultural visits. The Radevormwald Local History Museum focuses on products from local industry and crafts. The Evangelical Reformed Church on the market square is a listed historic building. Each of these different places offers its own perspective on local history, crafts or architectural history. Check the visitor arrangements for each venue before visiting a museum.
You can also encounter art in several public places: works by international artists are displayed on an ongoing basis in the town hall, in public spaces and in four town churches. Which works can be seen at which locations may change. In this way, changing artworks add another cultural perspective to the museums and historic sites.
Trails and Waterside Recreation
The Tuchmacherweg connects the town hall in Radevormwald with the Wupper dam and runs through the Uelfe Valley and the Wupper Valley. The trail ends at the top of the dam; bus 671 runs from there back to central Radevormwald. If you plan to use this service for your return journey, check the timetable in advance. You should also check current trail conditions before setting out.
Uelfebad is an accessible local recreation area for walkers, anglers and model boat enthusiasts. These activities offer different ways to spend time there; check local conditions before your visit. At the Wupper Reservoir, there are hiking trails and rest areas, as well as a boat harbour for sailing and rowing boats. If you plan to take part in water activities, it is advisable to check for current restrictions in advance.
For cyclists, the Wasserquintett Cycle Route is a regional option: the signposted route is 73 kilometres long, 28 kilometres of which run along a former railway line. The total length and the section on the former railway line give you an idea of the route; the Tuchmacherweg, by contrast, is defined by its connection between the town hall and the Wupper dam and its route through the valleys. Signage and conditions may change, so it is advisable to check them before setting off.
