Rott: Mountain Village and Hiking Trails
Accommodation in Rott
Rott is a peaceful mountain village with beautiful hiking trails. Two specific routes shape the local landscape: the Rotter Runde and the Kasselweg. Both start and end at the car park of Ferienpark Rott on Siegfried-Helbich-Straße in 32699 Extertal-Rott. If you include hiking trails in your travel planning, their lengths and landscape features offer concrete points of comparison.
Hiking in Rott: Two Routes
The Kasselweg (A3) is a marked hiking trail in the Extertal districts of Rott and Bremke. Its variants are 3.5 to just under six kilometres long and lead along narrow paths and lovingly laid stone steps through the Kasselbachtal and up to the heights of the Kösterberg. When comparing the routes, their differing lengths as well as the valley course, paths and stone steps provide concrete features to consider.
The Rotter Runde is seven kilometres long and has a marked shorter variant. It leads through the varied, small-scale mountain landscape of the Rintelnschen Hagen and the adjoining Weser Uplands; it also passes the XXL bench with its views. For choosing a route, this offers a set distance with a shorter alternative, alongside the range of lengths for the Kasselweg variants.
The landscape features described also set the two trails apart: the mountain landscape and XXL bench are part of the Rotter Runde, while the Kasselweg is characterised by its narrow paths, stone steps and ascent through the Kasselbachtal to the heights of the Kösterberg. If you want to choose by distance first, you can compare the Rotter Runde’s seven kilometres and shorter variant with the Kasselweg’s 3.5 to just under six kilometres.
Ferienpark Extertal is located directly in the “Rintelnschen Hagen” hiking area; its access road is signposted in Rott.
Hiking Trails and Excursions in Extertal
Extertal has around 250 kilometres of waymarked hiking trails. Marketing Extertal e.V. has established twelve themed trails together with local village communities and heritage associations. These figures apply to Extertal and provide a broader context than the two routes in Rott described here.
The Hansaweg (X9) also passes through the North Lippe municipality of Extertal. This 74-kilometre trail is certified as a quality hiking trail and is a historic trade route. It runs through Ostwestfalen-Lippe into the Weser Uplands. Alongside the shorter routes, Extertal therefore also offers a named, longer hiking trail in a regional context.
The Schnattergang, also known as the “Wundersame Wesen Weg” (Wonderful Creatures Trail), begins in Extertal-Bösingfeld. It is five kilometres long and features colourful, artistically designed, clearly marked signposts. This route provides another specific hiking destination in Extertal, clearly described by its length and trail markers.
Burg Sternberg is another excursion destination in Extertal. The hilltop castle stands at an elevation of 315 metres. Today it is used for a range of purposes, including cultural events with a focus on music, seminars, workshops and private celebrations; the programme may change. The castle’s Klingendes Museum displays instruments from the Peter Harlan collection. The regional picture therefore includes not only hiking trails but also a cultural venue with its own collection and a range of uses.
