The destinations range from leisure areas and museums to a historic half-timbered house and a water trail that can also be explored by bike. This gives you a chance to consider which themes matter most for your time in the city before booking.

Leisure at Mohns Park and the Botanical Garden

Mohns Park in Gütersloh offers numerous play, sports and leisure facilities for all age groups. These include a mini-golf course, sports and tennis courts, a playground and a water-treading pool. These facilities are still available, although some have changed in form. If a particular facility is important for your stay, check in advance whether it is operating.

Mohns Park also has an open-air stage used for outdoor cultural events. Specific event dates may vary; if you would like to combine your visit with an event, check the program in advance. Cultural events thus add a distinct focus to the park’s leisure and sports activities.

The Gütersloh Botanical Garden comprises eight themed gardens in total. The Gütersloh Apothekergarten Friends Association offers expert-guided tours: tours begin at 11 a.m. in front of the entrance to the Palm House Café, and no registration is required. Check the current details of the offering before your visit. The number of themed gardens and the fixed meeting point also give you specific guidance when planning a visit to the garden.

Local history, architecture and technology

The Gütersloh City Museum uses numerous illustrative exhibits to show what everyday life in Gütersloh looked like several decades ago. The Miele Museum focuses on something different: it is a museum of technological history at Miele’s corporate headquarters. Covering 750 square meters, it displays around 200 items from the company’s production, as well as documents from its corporate history. While the City Museum focuses on everyday life in earlier decades, the Miele Museum looks at the company’s history and production.

The historic Veerhoffhaus is another of the city’s notable buildings. This half-timbered house is a defining feature of the cityscape and has been built in several stages; together with the Kirchplatzring ensemble, it is one of Gütersloh’s central historic monuments. Here, the focus is on the building’s history and its place within the ensemble—a different perspective from the illustrative exhibits and exhibition pieces in the museums.

The DKBM built a railway line with a 600-millimeter gauge on a plot of land in Gütersloh, laid out as a loop around the property. This means that, alongside the history of technology presented in the museum, the city’s described attractions also include an actual railway installation.

Cycling and experiencing the water

The Dalke Water Experience Trail has 20 stations. They provide an informative look at the ecological and economic importance of water and its many uses. You can explore the trail on foot or by bike. In Avenwedde, you have to leave the Dalke between Station 1 at the Große Wiese nature reserve and Station 3 at the Strang Mill. This interruption is an important detail for route planning; take it into account if you want to follow the trail.

The D3 cycle route passes through Gütersloh and is part of a European route more than 3,500 kilometers long. Before setting out, check the signage and local conditions. Cycling tours in and around Gütersloh also pass through the city, the surrounding district and the Teutoburg Forest, where you can explore parks, historic sites and landscapes.

The information about the Water Experience Trail and the D3 covers different scales: for the Dalke Trail, the 20 stations and the specific route change in Avenwedde are important; for the D3, it is its place within a long European route. This helps you distinguish between a locally described water-themed trail and a long-distance cycle route when planning.
