Rath – Industrial History, Culture and Movement
Accommodation in Rath
When looking for a hotel in Rath, it helps to first decide what brings you to the area. The PSD BANK DOME, the listed D-Zug-Siedlung and two running routes offer different starting points for planning. There is also a local history that spans agriculture and brickworks, industrial change, literature and culture. This lets you decide which themes matter for your visit before narrowing down your search for accommodation.
From Agricultural Locality to Industrial Suburb
Until the turn of the century, Rath and its surrounding area were shaped by agriculture and brickworks. From 1897, the Mannesmann pipe works, relocated to Rath, shaped its transformation into an industrial and commercial suburb. At the same time, some idyllic spots have been preserved. Rath’s history thus brings economic change and preserved idyllic places together. Anyone wishing to get to know the district through its history will find both its earlier agricultural and brickmaking phase and the turning point marked by the pipe works.
D-Zug-Siedlung and District Library
The D-Zug-Siedlung is a concrete example of the area’s industrial setting. It was built near large industrial plants and was intended primarily for workers. Architect Bernhard Düttmann designed it in the Bauhaus style. The city designated the settlement as residential development worthy of preservation; it has been listed ever since. Its setting, intended residents, architectural design and protected status bring economic history, housing and architecture together in one example. The settlement is therefore a concrete point of interest for anyone interested in Rath’s architectural and social history.
The Rath District Library offers a different focus: it is a place for literature and culture in the heart of Rath. The two institutions offer distinct themes: the settlement represents architectural and social history, while the library focuses on literature and culture.
PSD BANK DOME and Tram
The PSD BANK DOME is located on Theodorstraße in Rath and is a venue for sports, live music and impressive shows. If your stay is planned around an event there, the venue provides a specific point of reference for your planning. Tram line 701 goes directly to the “PSD BANK DOME” stop. If you are visiting for a sports event, live music or a show, you can use the venue and the stop of the same name as points of reference.
Running Routes of Different Lengths
There are also two clearly different route lengths for running. You can run a circuit of approximately 525 metres around Rather Waldstadion. In the Aaper Wald, near Rath, there is a 6 km circular route. In terms of distance, the circuit around the stadium is the shorter option; the route in the Aaper Wald is considerably longer. If you would like to include a run, you can choose between a short circuit and a longer route based on the distance.
DĂĽsseldorf as a Broader Travel Destination
The wider travel destination of Düsseldorf offers more themes to explore. Hofgarten is Düsseldorf’s oldest public park, covers around 27 hectares and features a large expanse of water and numerous sculptures. Carlsplatz is a destination for food shopping, offering Düsseldorf home-style cooking as well as Italian, Indian, French and Persian dishes. Little Tokyo invites you to discover Japanese culture and cuisine. In addition to Rath’s local history, culture and events, Düsseldorf also offers distinct interests in parks, food and culture.
