Diedrichshagen combines a natural beach, coastal forest and signposted Thalasso health trails. When planning your trip, it is important to distinguish between the different landmarks: the beach is part of the Stoltera Nature Reserve, while Thalasso Health Trail 2 refers to a separate 4.7-kilometer loop through the seaside resort. There is also the range of offerings at Blohm Equestrian Farm, and Diedrichshagen’s designation as a state-recognized seaside resort. This lets you consider the natural area, a specific walking route and other local offerings separately.

Beach and protected landscape

Diedrichshagen beach is part of the Stoltera Nature Reserve. Behind a dense coastal forest, the cliff edge drops almost vertically up to 20 meters to a natural, unspoiled beach. It can be reached on foot via a small ravine; colorful pebbles along the water’s edge are among the features the beach is known for.

The “Diedrichshäger Land” Landscape Protection Area covers approximately 353 hectares. It lies within the cadastral districts of Diedrichshagen (sections 1 to 4), Warnemünde (section 1) and Groß Klein (section 1).

The disused sand pits west and east of the Diedrichshagen landfill are important habitats for numerous rare and endangered plants and animals.

Walking between coast and forest

Thalasso Health Trail 2, “By the Baltic Sea and Through the Seaside Resort of Diedrichshagen,” is a 4.7-kilometer circular walk through the seaside resort. After about 1.5 kilometers, the trail leads up a staircase into the coastal forest of the Stoltera Nature Reserve. For your planning, the two figures refer to different things: 4.7 kilometers is the length of the entire loop; about 1.5 kilometers indicates where the trail reaches the staircase leading into the coastal forest.

From Diedrichshagen to Markgrafenheide, there are ten signposted Thalasso health trails that lead through the surf zone or the adjacent coastal forests. When choosing a route, you can compare the surroundings: the surf zone or the adjacent coastal forest.

Thalasso Health Trail 2 can be reached on bus route 36 or 37 toward the seaside resort of Diedrichshagen, getting off at the “Rostock-Warnemünde Strand” stop. This stop is very close to the start and finish of the walk. Check the current route and timetable for your specific journey.
