For a stay in Gubkow, Hofsee Lake and the workshop offer two distinct highlights: a bathing area by the water and hands-on cultural activities. Hofsee Lake is a bathing site; workshops are held at the “Ceramics, Glass Fusing, Basket Weaving” workshop. If you are looking for a hotel, you could plan your stay around either the bathing area or a workshop appointment arranged in advance. The wider Sanitz destination offers additional cultural and walking options.

Hofsee Lake: Bathing Area and Surroundings

Hofsee Lake in Gubkow is a bathing site. From the road, you can reach it by crossing a large, gently sloping meadow; free parking is available nearby. A belt of reeds surrounds the lake, and tall trees line its shores. The bottom of the bathing area is sandy. For the 2022–2025 assessment period, the bathing water quality was rated excellent.

The Manor House and Former Manor Park

The former manor house, Gutshaus Gubkow, stands by Hofsee Lake and is privately owned. In the district’s list of protected monuments dated May 14, 2024, the park of the former manor estate by Hofsee Lake in Gubkow is listed as a protected monument. Alongside the bathing area, the former manor house and park are therefore part of the local historical context.

Workshops at the Workshop

The “Ceramics, Glass Fusing, Basket Weaving” workshop in Gubkow offers year-round workshops in pottery, glass fusing and basket weaving. Visitors can try their hand at ceramics, basket weaving and glass fusing. Confirm specific dates and access arrangements with the organizer before your arrival. Coffee, tea and vegan cake are also offered; availability may vary, so ask about them before your visit.

There is one distinction to bear in mind when planning your timing: the workshops run year-round, but you should still confirm specific dates in advance; the excellent bathing water quality rating applies to the 2022–2025 period.

Culture and Walking Routes in the Wider Sanitz Destination

Sanitz village church was built in the 13th century. The imposing fieldstone building has a half-timbered tower; the altar contains paintings by Rudolph Suhrlandt from around 1800. The Old Forge in Sanitz also offers a historical connection: it was first mentioned in a document in 1798 and is a late Baroque oak half-timbered building. The forge’s courtyard is protected as a historic monument. It cannot be viewed directly because the building stands on private property.

Various route descriptions are available for the wider Sanitz destination. The 36-kilometer circular route starts at Sanitz station and passes through Wendfeld, Reppelin, Wendorf, Neu-Wendorf, Stormsdorf, Zarnewanz, Tessin and Horst before returning to Sanitz. The Kleine Waldrunde Sanitz hiking trail leads north from the old village in Sanitz through a wooded area along sandy clearings. The circular route description specifies its length, starting point and course; the Kleine Waldrunde description focuses on its direction, wooded area and terrain.

GroĂź LĂĽsewitz is also part of the wider Sanitz destination: the manor house at GroĂź LĂĽsewitz Castle was built between 1896 and 1898 in the Neo-Renaissance style. A landscaped park adjoins the manor house and was expanded after 1970 to include an equestrian competition ground.
