Rukieten can be considered from two perspectives when planning a trip: its local history and its road connections. The village was first mentioned in a document in 1306. Local memorials and an KunstOffen programme in May 2026 provide further points of interest. The wider travel destination of Rostock also offers a regional setting with its own nature and leisure activities.

History and Culture in Rukieten

The district’s list of monuments, dated 14 May 2024, includes a farmhouse at Anger 3 as a listed building. It also records a war memorial at Anger commemorating 1914–18. At Am Ausbau 5–7, the list names an MTS memorial stone. The three addresses mark different sites of remembrance in everyday community life: a historic farmhouse, a war memorial and the memorial stone.

KunstOffen, held from 23 to 25 May 2026, offered a temporary connection to the arts. In his open studio in Rukieten, sculptor Arndt Weigend showed sculptures made of granite, marble, sandstone and various types of wood. Drawings, prints of woodcuts and graphic art calendars featuring Ringelnatz poems were also presented. The different materials and works shaped that year’s programme, which was specific to those event days in May 2026.
