If you are looking for a hotel in Broderstorf, the local history offers a concrete context for understanding the destination. Broderstorf was first mentioned in an official document on October 16, 1327, and is laid out as a linear village. The village was also located on the important historic trade route from Lübeck via Rostock to Stettin. The date establishes the written record; the trade route places Broderstorf within a historic connection between the cities mentioned.

Local History and Historic Buildings

The Rostock district’s list of historic monuments, dated May 14, 2024, includes the railway station building in Broderstorf, at Rostocker Chaussee 2, as well as a residential building at Rostocker Chaussee 1. Train departures, operating days, and possible timetable changes are also listed for Broderstorf station. If you are planning to travel by train, check the timetable information before your trip.

Another historic feature lies within the municipality of Broderstorf: the former Teschendorf manor, a district of the municipality, has been designated a protected historic area by ordinance. The area includes historic streets and routes. This means that the focus here is not just on an individual building, but also on the village’s historic layout as shaped by its roads and streets.

Teschendorf Manor has been preserved with a rare degree of completeness and is considered a characteristic example of a Mecklenburg manor. Its form is rooted in medieval antecedents and took shape in the modern era. The manor house was built in 1830 and acquired its present appearance around 1900. It is a single-storey, Neo-Baroque stucco building with 11 bays. At the center, an elaborately decorated, two-storey central avant-corps with three bays stands out, framed by colossal Corinthian columns. The bays divide the façade; the central avant-corps is the prominent section that projects from the building’s front. The building’s overall layout and the emphasis on its center can thus both be seen.

The building history of Öftenhäven Manor House is also part of the municipality’s historic character. The building was remodeled by 1918, as indicated by the tower’s weather vane. After 1990, the manor house stood empty for many years and was later renovated by a new owner. In Steinfeld, also within the municipality of Broderstorf, the first documentary mention dates to May 13, 1334. Steinfeld Manor has been a state-owned estate since 1781. These histories of villages and manors add their own milestones alongside the first mention of Broderstorf.
